Five Maoists carrying a collective reward of Rs 17 lakh have surrendered before the authorities in the Maoist-affected district of Sukma in Chhattisgarh on Monday, June 3, the police informed.
The surrendered cadres include a Maoist couple identified as Madkam Pandu, Deputy Commander/PPCM of the supply team of People’s Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA) battalion no 1 and his wife Rawwa Bhime, member of the same battalion of the outlaws. Pandu was carrying a whopping bounty of Rs 8 lakh on his head, while Bhime was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh.
Among the other members who have laid down arms are Tati alias Madkam Masa, who has been holding an ACM rank and was in-charge of the medical team of the Pamed Area Committee of the outlawed CPI Maoist, he was carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on his head.
The other cadres have been identified as Komaram Dulla, section commander of platoon number 10 (b) and Shekhar alias Muka Sodi, member of the Dakshin (South) Sub Zonal Bureau press team, both carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh each.
The surrender took place before the officials of the district police and the Central Reserve Police Force where the surrendered cadres joined the mainstream under the flagship “Poona Narkom” campaign at the police headquarters in Sukma. Those who have joined the mainstream will be rehabilitated under the state government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy.
Welcoming the development, the Deputy Chief Minister of the state, Vijay Sharma, said that impressed by our rehabilitation policy and ‘Niyad Nellanaar’ scheme, the process of Maoist giving up guns and returning to the mainstream of society is continuing. They are all welcomed in the mainstream of the society.
It is noteworthy that in another such development, as many as eight Maoists, including 4 hardcore cadres carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 5 lakhs, had also surrendered before the police in the Sukma district itself on June 2. Those who are carrying a reward have been identified as Vetti Mase, Sodhi Tulsi, Podiyam Nande and Sagar alias Deva Madkam.
Maoist killed villager on charges of espionage in Narayanpur
In another development reported from insurgency-hit Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh, armed cadres of the Kutul Area Committee of the proscribed Maoist outfit have killed a villager on alleged charges of espionage on June 2, suggest reports.
The incident has occurred in Maspur village, where around a dozen cadres of the Maoist outfit barged into the house of a villager identified as Shaluram Potai and killed him after accusing him for working as an informer to the police. According to the reports, the Maoist also dropped pamphlets before fleeing the spot.
It must be noted that the state of Chhattisgarh has been badly affected by the Maoist insurgency for a long time. However, the forces in recent times have made significant inroads in the Maoist stronghold and are continuously carrying out offensive operations in the affected areas.
It is assumed that the augmenting footprints of the forces in the erstwhile Maoist stronghold has frustrated the outlawed outfit in a way that it has turned its guns towards the unarmed civilians.
