As the Chhattisgarh government under Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sao has amplified its efforts to get rid of the Maoist insurgency in the state, the persistent effort made by the government on all fronts has begun to yield fruitful result.

In another such development, as many as eight Maoists, including 4 hardcore cadres carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 5 lakh, have surrendered before the police in insurgency-hit Sukma district on Sunday, June 2.

Those who are carrying a reward have been identified as Vetti Mase, who is carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh, Sodhi Tulsi, Podiyam Nande; and Sagar alias Deva Madkam, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh each.

The surrender took place under the flagship “Poona Narkom” (Meaning New Dawn in local Gondi dialect) Campaign being run by the administration and security forces in the Maoist affected district of Sukma.

Those who have parted ways with the banned outfit were disappointed with the Maoists’ ideology and discrimination in the outfit. The surrendered cadres also include three female cadres.

Hailing the development, Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai while taking to social media platform X said that “good news pertaining to the surrender of eight Maoists, including 4 who were carrying a reward, has been received”.

Maoists are returning to the mainstream by giving up guns after being inspired by the surrender and rehabilitation policy and Niyad Nellanaar (An umbrella scheme aimed at providing benefits of separate government schemes to the residents of Maoist affected areas meaning ‘Yours good village’) schemes of our government, we are eager to their revival, added CM Sai.

The development has occurred amidst the Deputy Chief Minister’s (Dy Cm) visit to Bastar to interact with the intellectuals of society for enacting an effective surrender and rehabilitation policy for the Maoists and the families affected by the insurgency.

The Dy Cm on Sunday that the incumbent government is making multi-pronged efforts to free Bastar from the dark shadow of Naxalism (Maoism), efforts and work are being done on many fronts simultaneously, including discussion with intellectuals of the society over betterment of Naxal affected families.

The Deputy CM during his visit has participated in thorough discussions with the intellectuals of the society in Jagdalpur and Kondagaon of Bastar division, an administrative division of the state encompassing districts like Bijapur, Sukma, Dantewada and Narayanpur, all highly affected by the Maoist insurgency since decades.

DRG personnel hacked to death in Sukma

In other news from Sukma itself, a personnel of District Reserve Guard (DRG), a specialised counter-insurgency unit of the state police, was hacked to death by unknown assailants on late Sunday night.

The incident occurred under the Gadiras police station limits of Sukma, where the DRG personnel was on duty in a local fair. As of now, the police have initiated a probe into the matter and investigating it from all possible angles, including the possible involvement of Maoists in the brutal act.

It is noteworthy that the Small Action Teams (SAT) of the outlaws have been carrying out such targeted attacks on security personnel on regular intervals to spread fear among the residents. However, no official confirmation of Maoist involvement has been made so far in the matter, and more details in the case are awaited.
