Guwahati: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha strongly condemned the actions of the West Bengal Police on May 23, describing the state’s condition as a “jungle raj.” The Chief Minister’s remarks came after the West Bengal Police, reportedly under the direction of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), halted a BJP rally led by CM Saha.
The rally, organized in support of BJP candidate and former Union Minister Debashree Chowdhury, was stopped despite having the necessary permissions. This incident took place at Hazra Road in South Kolkata, a key area for the BJP’s campaign efforts.
Expressing his outrage, CM Saha said, “It seems CM Mamata Banerjee is committed to flaunting the democratic values reflecting her dictatorial nature caused by the fear of loss in the general elections.” He further criticized the West Bengal administration, stating, “Beyond all the limits of shamelessness, an incident like blocking the campaign despite all the permissions is nothing but her arrogance and tyrannical nature.”
The Chief Minister highlighted that such actions are an insult to democratic values and the Constitution. He emphasized that the peace-loving people of Bengal would not tolerate this perceived tyranny any longer and are expected to respond by voting for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in large numbers.
CM Saha also noted that the current situation indicates a shift in the political ground in West Bengal, suggesting that the ruling party’s fear of losing power is leading to increased acts of suppression. “The ground under the feet of the ruler of Bengal has shifted, so terror is the only hope. But no terrorism can stop the BJP in Bengal,” he asserted.
This incident has stirred significant political controversy, drawing attention to the escalating tensions between the BJP and TMC in West Bengal. As the general elections approach, the clash over political rallies and campaigns underscores the high stakes and intense competition in the region.
It should be mentioned that Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also campaigned aggressively in West Bengal. During his election rallies, the Assam CM said that the TMC works to focus on promoting one family and one individual, but the BJP is focused on developing every citizen of Bengal as they are Modi ka Parivar. Now Bengal is with the Modi wave and the BJP will surely win 25 to 30 seats in West Bengal, CM Sarma said.
