The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to repeat its 2019 performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha election in Haryana. In 2019, the BJP won all ten seats in Haryana, improving its 2014 Lok Sabha poll performance by three seats.
Haryana is one of the States in which the BJP has unexpectedly improved its vote and seat tally. The BJP was a minor party in Haryana, always following its local partner in the State, like INLD or the Haryana Vikas Congress of the late Banshi Lal. But in 2014, the BJP gathered its own courage and went alone in the Lok Sabha election in Haryana. The BJP won 7 of the ten seats in Haryana.
Like Haryana, the BJP performed unexpectedly in many other states. These states are Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, and others. The pollsters had expected that it was the Modi factor in 2014 and would not repeat it in the 2014 Haryana Assembly election. The BJP also maintained its excellent performance in the Assembly election. The BJP won 47 of the 90-member Assembly in Haryana. Before that, the BJP’s best performance was in 1987, when the party won 16 seats in alliance with the Janta Dal under the leadership of the late Chaudhary Devi Lal.
In the consequent Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections, the BJP improved its performance. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the BJP won all ten seats with an improved vote percentage. In the 2019 Assembly election, the BJP improved its vote share by 3.29 per cent concerning the 2014 Assembly election in the State. Though seven seats reduced the BJP seat share in 2019, its vote share increased. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the average winning margin of Haryana Lok Sabha seats was 3.66 lakh votes. This showed the BJP’s continuance of its vote base.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the BJP took full precautions in spite of its excellent and unmatchable performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha election. The BJP denied tickets to several of its MPs in Haryana. This shows the BJP’s accurate reason for winning election after election.
