Prominent ethnic Kashmiri activist Javed Ahmad Beigh has issued a strong condemnation of purported terrorist associations and called for unity among Kashmiri communities amidst ongoing discussions surrounding the Kashmir conflict. Beigh’s remarks come in response to assertions made by renowned Kashmiri activist Raja Muzaffar, a purported Kashmiri residing in the USA, regarding the status of Kashmir and its ethnic identities.

Beigh, known for his staunch advocacy for Kashmiri rights, expressed deep concern over Muzaffar’s alleged association with the banned terrorist organisation JKLF (Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front) and his assertions regarding the ethnic composition of Kashmiri Muslims. Beigh stressed the importance of accurate representation and respect for the diverse ethnic backgrounds within the Kashmiri populace.

Responding to Muzaffar’s claims regarding Kashmir’s historical and cultural connections, Beigh reaffirmed the region’s rich and pluralistic heritage, encompassing Hindu, Buddhist, and Islamic influences. He emphasised the shared cultural legacy of Kashmiri Muslims and Kashmiri Pandits, rejecting attempts to sow division along religious lines.

Beigh strongly denounced the use of violence and terrorism in the Kashmir conflict, particularly highlighting the alleged role of JKLF in perpetrating violence and displacing Kashmiri Pandits from the region. He called for accountability for past atrocities and urged a commitment to peaceful dialogue and reconciliation among Kashmiri communities.

Addressing the issue of Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK), Beigh underscored the importance of respecting the rights and aspirations of all Kashmiris, irrespective of their geographic location. He stressed the need for a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir conflict based on principles of justice, human rights, and self-determination.

Further, Beigh reiterated his commitment to rectifying past mistakes and forging a better future for Kashmiri generations. He called upon all stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue and work towards a peaceful resolution that upholds the rights and dignity of all Kashmiris.

Addressing the assertions made by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar regarding the status of Kashmir, Raja Muzaffar issued a powerful rebuttal through social media platform X. In his letter to S Jaishankar, Muzaffar highlighted crucial inaccuracies and advocated for a peaceful resolution to the longstanding conflict.

Muzaffar began by asserting that Kashmir has never been part of either Pakistan or India, both legally and historically. He emphasises the region’s unique status as a disputed territory, with its people harbouring aspirations for reunification and Independence.

Directly challenging S Jaishankar’s claim that Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK) is part of India, Muzaffar denounced this assertion as misleading. He stressed the fundamental right of Kashmiris to demand complete Independence rather than being subjected to territorial claims by either India or Pakistan.

Moreover, Muzaffar criticised S Jaishankar’s statement for lacking responsibility and contravening principles of international law and human rights and the practice of keeping people under occupation, highlighting its violation of democratic principles and the United Nations Charter.

Calling for a sensitive and respectful approach to the Kashmir issue, Muzaffar urged him to reconsider his stance and engage in dialogue and diplomacy. He emphasises the necessity of finding a peaceful solution that respects the rights and aspirations of the Kashmiri people rather than resorting to force and aggression.
