In back-to-back significant developments, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will soon begin its probe into the infamous Biranpur incident, informed Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in a social media post on Saturday, April 27.

Taking to the X, the first Vanvasi CM of the State Sai, informed that the CBI will now investigate the Biranpur incident. In accordance with the decision of our cabinet the central government has now even notified that, the family of Bhuvneshwar Sahu will be served with justice.

The announcement comes a day after the CM in another post informed that the central agency will soon commence its probe into the alleged irregularities of Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC) examination 2021.

हमारी सरकार के कैबिनेट के निर्णय और सहमति के आधार पर भारत सरकार ने अधिसूचना भी जारी कर दी है।

Hailing the development, the State Finance Minister (FM) O.P Chaudhary had remarked that PSC markets were organised at the time of the previous government led by Bhupesh Baghel. The FM further expressed hope that justice will be done to the youths of Chhattisgarh.

It is noteworthy that the alleged PSC scam and Biranpur incident were among the most debated issue at the time of State assembly polls last year where several senior leaders including the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to act against the culprit if voted to power in the tribal dominated State.

Sensing the public sentiments over the brutal incident of Biranpur, the then oppposition Bhartiya Janata Party had handed over a ticket to Ishwar Sahu, the father of the deceased youth Bhuvneshwar Sahu who was mercilessly killed by a enraged mob in Bemetra.

Banking on public sentiments, Sahu, an ordinary villager, contested the election from the Saaja constituency of Bemetra, from where the he became victorious by defeating the Indian National Congress (INC) party’s heavy weight Ravindra Choubey.

While recalling the incident and his helplessness at the time of the incident, Sahu, in a video message recently had alleged that today I am an MLA from Saaja constituency, but there was a time when I was only a father living along with my family as a farmer when people from a particular community killed my son.

“I was running from pillar to post for justice but the then Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu who is now the Congress candidate from Mahasamund Lok Sabha seats never paid attention to my irony even as a community member, he neither tried to stop the conversion nor did he tried to serve me justice,” said a pained Sahu.

It is to be noted that the INC has fielded former Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu from the Mahasamund Lok Sabha seats against the BJP candidate Kumari Chaudhary.

The Biranpur incident

It is to be noted that the case pertains to the brutal murder of a youth identified as Bhuvneshwar Sahu of Biranpur village under Saaja police station limits of Bemetara district in Chhattisgarh on April 8 last year.

The cold-blooded murder of the youth occurred after a group of Islamists attacked the Hindu community over a minor scuffle between the two students returning from school and a youth of the Muslim community. It was then reported that Bhuvneshwar Sahu was stabbed by a group of people, and when he fell unconscious, they took him along. Later, his body was found lying in an open space.

Bhuvneshwar’s father, Ishwar Sahu had earlier alleged that his son was murdered due to a four month enmity that aroused after a Muslim man married a girl from our community. He further alleged that the Hindus had a meeting ‘called ‘Hindu Sabha’ after they took a girl from our community, and they wanted to take revenge.

It was also claimed that the reason behind the growing enmity between the two communities was due to the number of incidents of Love Jihad that had occurred in the region over a couple of years, which finally led to a violent clash between the groups in which Bhuvneshwar was killed.

The incident sparked a huge outrage among the Hindu community in the state following which calls were made for a statewide shutdown by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP). The shutdown call was also supported by the Bhilai Chamber of Commerce and the BJP whose state president Arun Sao had also arrived at the village to meet the victim’s family.
