The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has filed a complaint against People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti with Election Commission of India (ECI) for taking “appropriate action’’ against her. In his letter addressed to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar NCPCR Chairperson Priyank Kanoongo has filed the complaint under the subject “Use of school-going children for the election campaign for Rajouri-Anantnag P.C. by Mehbooba Mufti’’.
In his letter, Kanoongo has said that his organisation, NCPCR has come across a X report wherein it has come to the notice that Mehbooba Mufti is using school-going children for the election campaign for Rajour-Anantnag P.C. He has also given the X link in his complaint.
Further, he has said that “The Commission is of the view that this appears to be a violation of various guidelines/provisions of the Model Code of Conduct issued by the Election Commission of India’’. Therefore, the “Commission while taking suo motu cognisance of the matter u/s 13(1)(j) of CPCR Act, 2005, brings the same to your kind notice for taking deemed appropriate action at your end’’.
Kanoongo has said that The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) is a statutory body constituted under Section 3 of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act, 2005, to protect the child rights and other related matters in the country. The Commission is further mandated to monitor the proper and effective implementation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act,2012; Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and Right to Free and Compulsory Education (RET) Act, 2009.
