Kerala: K Annamalai leads BJP’s campaign in Wayanad, says constituency doesn’t need VIP MP like Rahul Gandhi

Addressing an election meeting in Mananthavadi, Wayanad, Kerala, K Annamalai, Tamil Nadu state BJP president, emphasised that the constituency doesn’t require a ‘VIP MP’. He highlighted that despite Rahul Gandhi’s victory last time with a majority of over five lakhs, he failed to address the needs of the constituency. Annamalai underscored BJP candidate K Surendran’s commitment to the people of Wayanad, stating that Surendran will prioritise their interests and work towards bringing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s social welfare schemes to the region.

In a massive roadshow alongside K Surendran, K Annamalai asserted that Surendran is poised to secure a memorable victory in Wayanad, emphasising his commitment to serving the people rather than merely defeating Rahul Gandhi. The leader challenged Rahul to provide a detailed account of his actions in the constituency over the past five years, highlighting his limited visits to Wayanad. Stressing the need for a local representative who can advocate for plantation workers and implement central welfare schemes, the leader urged voters to consider the contrasting records of inaction by Rahul and promises made by Surendran, questioning who truly prioritises their interests.

Annamalai criticised Congress for its inconsistent economic policies, highlighting Rahul Gandhi’s calls for wealth redistribution and Sam Pitroda’s proposal of a high inheritance tax. He questioned the need for such intrusive measures and urged Congress to clarify its stance. Comparing Rahul’s ideas to PM Modi’s, he emphasised the need for transparency in Congress’s economic agenda.

In a recent incident, police in Mananthawadi removed BJP’s election campaign boards, leading to controversy. The boards were set up to welcome K Annamalai and K Surendran and were erected by BJP workers on the night of April 23 in preparation for an upcoming road show. However, by 9:30 am on April 24, police had removed the boards, prompting criticism from Surendran who questioned the police’s actions. A verbal altercation ensued between Surendran and the police amidst protests from party workers. Eventually, workers reinstalled the boards in Surendran’s presence, leading officials to leave the scene as BJP’s protests intensified.

K Surendran emerges as a formidable contender against Rahul Gandhi and CPI’s Annie Raja in the Wayanad parliamentary constituency. Residents of Wayanad express their conviction that Surendran’s leadership is crucial in addressing a range of issues, including human-wildlife conflicts.
