Kohima: In a significant breakthrough, the Nagaland Police apprehended Hassan Uddin, a notorious drug peddler, for orchestrating a sophisticated drug trafficking operation. Utilising the ‘Indian Post’ as a conduit, Uddin was involved in trafficking drugs across state borders, shedding light on the alarming nexus between pharmacies and illicit drug trade.

Arrest and Investigation

Hassan Uddin, a pharmacist based in Dimapur, was apprehended following a collaborative effort between the Nagaland Police, Arunachal Pradesh Police, and West Bengal Police. The joint operation uncovered Uddin’s utilisation of the postal delivery system to dispatch parcels of morphine from Dimapur to West Bengal.

Modus Operandi and Seizure:

Operating from a medical shop in Dimapur’s Murgi Patti area, Uddin sourced morphine from Moreh, a town near the Myanmar border. Subsequently, parcels containing approximately 2 kg of morphine, valued at Rs 8 crore, were intercepted by the West Bengal Police in Barrackpore in February.

Criminal History

Hassan Uddin, also known as Hasan Mamu, has a history of narcotics-related offences, often in collaboration with his brother Kamal Uddin. Furthermore, the investigation revealed the involvement of other individuals who continued trafficking even while on bail, highlighting the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement agencies.

The rampant drug trafficking in Nagaland has resulted in widespread societal harm, with numerous youths falling victim to drug abuse. The Nagaland Police urges the public to report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking and refrain from supporting such nefarious elements. Additionally, the enforcement of strict provisions under the NDPS Act underscores the government’s commitment to combating drug proliferation and ensuring accountability.

As the Nagaland Government’s ‘War Against Drugs’ intensifies, the collaboration between law enforcement agencies and vigilant citizens remains pivotal in curbing the scourge of synthetic drugs and psychotropic substances. Through concerted efforts, the aim is to dismantle drug networks and safeguard communities from the devastating impact of substance abuse.
