The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has traced the trail of corrupt practices of jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi Liquor Policy Scam. The CBO has stated that a liquor businessman from the south met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal seeking support, with the assurance that K Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, would contact him. The agency alleges that this encounter was part of a larger conspiracy to collect a Rs 100 crore kickback from the liquor industry.

According to the CBI, the businessman met Arvind Kejriwal at his office chamber in Delhi on March 16, 2022, seeking the Chief Minister’s support. Kejriwal, in turn, assured him of assistance and mentioned that K Kavitha would be in touch regarding the matter. Allegedly, Kejriwal also solicited funds in exchange for his support.

Subsequently, Kavitha, who is a leader of the Telangana-based political party BRS, contacted the businessman and arranged a meeting in Hyderabad. She referenced the businessman’s interaction with the Delhi Chief Minister and mentioned that Vijay Nair, the former media coordinator of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was also in contact with her. Notably, Nair is another accused in the case.

During their meeting, the CBI claims that Kavitha instructed the businessman to arrange Rs 100 crore as upfront money and requested him to contribute 50 crore towards the alleged kickback scheme.

The CBI’s revelations came to light as the agency sought custody of Kavitha in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. The agency informed the Delhi court that Kavitha’s involvement in the conspiracy to collect the kickback was uncovered during their investigation.

Currently, Kavitha is already in Tihar Jail following her arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the same liquor policy case.

The court has reserved its order on the CBI’s plea seeking five-day custody of Kavitha. The case has raised significant concerns and drawn widespread attention, particularly due to the involvement of high-profile individuals and allegations of corruption at the highest levels of government.
