Uttar Pradesh: “India to lead global fight against terrorism,” says CM Yogi; debunks UK daily’s report

CM Yogi Adityanath responded to a UK newspaper's report on terrorism during an election rally in Saharanpur, stressing India's global leadership in fighting terrorism under PM Modi. He cited The Guardian's report on terrorist eliminations in Pakistan to highlight the urgency of global counter-terrorism efforts

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath spoke on the recent report by one of the UK’s daily newspapers on terrorism, stating that terrorism has become a huge concern for the entire world and that only India, under the Prime Minister’s leadership, would lead the world in dealing with its threat.

Speaking at a public gathering during an election rally in Saharanpur on April 6, Chief Minister Yogi said, “Two days ago, a report by a reputed British newspaper attracted the attention of the world and all of us. It mentioned how terrorists were killed inside Pakistan. Only The Guardian can tell what is the source of this report.”

“Today, the world has also accepted that terrorism is a challenge and India will lead the world in dealing with it under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” said CM Yogi, with the Prime Minister present on the stage.

Chief Minister Yogi also mentioned the zero-tolerance policy adopted by the BJP government against terrorism.

This comes after UK Daily, The Guardian, recently published a report alleging that New Delhi was involved in killing 20 terrorists in Pakistan since 2020 as a part of a broader plan to eliminate terrorists on foreign soil.

In his address to the public in Saharanpur, CM Yogi also said that the country was witnessing a ‘New Bharat’ and that the new generation was fortunate enough to experience it.

“We are witnessing a ‘New Bharat’ which is emerging as a global leader on the global platform in the present day. This is the Bharat that is safe and is also known for its world-class infrastructure. A Bharat is a model of development for the world and a model for what should be done for the welfare of the poor,” said CM Yogi.

“The New Bharat belongs to Bharatiyata and is for Bharat. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there is no hesitation, no hindrance, no barriers to discussions on any subject. “It is our good fortune that the new generation is able to experience and witness this New Bharat,” he added.

Days after launching his campaign for the Lok Sabha polls in the state from Meerut, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an election meeting at Saharanpur on April 6, followed by a roadshow in Ghaziabad.

Meanwhile, while launching a fierce attack on the opposition on the issue of graft and probity in public life, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on April 6, that while the former’s only aim was to take cuts and ‘commission’, the BJP-ruled NDA was on a ‘mission’.

Addressing a public rally in UP’s Saharanpur, ahead of the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 19, PM Modi said, “The leaders in the I.N.D.I alliance are always looking for avenues to take commission, while we, in the NDA, are on a mission (to take the country forward). During its reign at the Centre, the Congress always encouraged and gave primacy to the commission (construction of) the Ram Temple in Ayodhya was our mission, not election propaganda.”

Renewing his attack on the opposition over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Shakti’ remark, he said it was unfortunate that the leaders in the opposition alliance were standing against ‘Shakti’, which broadly translates to women’s power.

Recalling his visit to the city a decade ago, PM Modi said the country had fallen on hard times back then and was going through a phase of “great despair and crisis.”

“I was here in Saharanpur for an election meeting 10 years ago. Back then, the country was in dire straits. It was going through a period of great despair and crisis. I remember promising you all at the time that I wouldn’t rest till I can lift the country from the crisis…that I wouldn’t let the pride and prestige of our motherland be called into question. I vowed never to allow my country to stop in its pursuit of excellence,” PM Modi recalled.

“I resolved then that someday, with your blessings, I would rid the country of its ills and afflictions. I promised to turn despair into hope, and hope into faith. You showered your love and affection on me and I left no stone unturned to repay your faith and support,” Prime Minister Modi added.

Saharanpur, along with seven other seats in Uttar Pradesh, will go to the polls in the first phase of the general elections on April 19.

The country’s most populous state, which sends the maximum number of members to the Lower House, at 80, will vote in all seven phases–on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 23 and June 1.

Earlier in the 2019 elections, turning the arithmetic of the SP-BSP ‘Mahagatbandhan’ in Uttar Pradesh upside down, the BJP and its ally Apna Dal (S) won 64 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats. The partners in the alliance, Akhilesh Yadav’s SP and Mayawati’s BSP, could only muster 15 seats.

The counting of votes for all 543 Lok Sabha seats across the country is scheduled for June 4.
