The National Testing Agency (NTA) has emphasized that the forthcoming Common University Entrance Test for Undergraduate Programs (CUET UG 2024), slated to be held between May 15 to 31, 2024, will be conducted based on the updated curriculum outlined by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). Earlier, NTA had uploaded NCERT’s old syllabus on its official website for the CUET UG 2024 exam which raised concerns among students.
According to Kamal Singh Chauhan who is an education expert and exam counsellor at a private coaching institute in Kota, NCERT’s revised syllabus entails significant modifications this time. Alongside a reduction in topics within Physics and Mathematics, specifically, six chapters of Chemistry and three chapters of Biology have been omitted. He also highlighted discrepancies related to the syllabus. Despite concerns, CUET UG 2024 is scheduled to take place between May 15 and 31. As per data, approximately 16 lakh students registered last year, and 14.5 lakh candidates appeared for the CUET UG examination.
The education expert commended NCERT’s logical revisions in the new syllabus and emphasized that it aligns with the National Education Policy 2020. Despite the rectification of errors in the old syllabus of CUET UG, Chauhan criticized the delayed process, suggesting that NTA should have acted promptly on this. However, he reassured students who had appeared for their class 12 boards based on the revised NCERT syllabus, that questions would not be asked from the deleted portions.
As per the revised CUET UG 2024 syllabus, notably, the Biology and Chemistry syllabi have undergone significant changes, with deletions in topics such as reproduction in organisms, surface chemistry, polymers, ecological succession, solid-state, and more. In Mathematics and Physics, topics including relations and functions, application of derivatives from Tangent and normal, 3D geometry, application of derivatives, binary and inverse and composite function, and certain electrostatics and magnetism concepts have been removed, reflecting the revised syllabus’s focus on core concepts and contemporary educational trends.
How should students view this?
First and foremost, students must acquaint themselves comprehensively with the updated NCERT curriculum for CUET UG exam 2024. This includes a meticulous CUET UG subject specific content, backed up by an in-depth analysis. By fostering a holistic understanding of each subject area, candidates will be able to enhance their knowledge base and solve different question formats with confidence during the exam.
Furthermore, strategic planning and effective time management are also indispensable for qualifying CUET UG successfully. Given the breadth of the revised NCERT syllabus, students should adopt a well structured study schedule and allocate adequate time to each subject while prioritizing areas of weakness in their study plan. Students should do regular practice through mock tests and sample papers. This will not only enhance proficiency but also cultivate resilience and adaptability, which are essential for passing CUET UG with good marks.
Students can engage in group study sessions, seek help/ guidance from mentors, and leverage online platforms for supplementary resources. This will facilitate peer-driven learning experiences. Additionally, students are also advised they stay updated with recent developments and evolving trends in education to remain abreast with revisions or modifications to the NCERT syllabus.
CUET UG 2024 exam will be conducted from May 15 to 31, 2024 without any changes due to election dates. Students interested in appearing for the CUET UG exam 2024 can submit the application form till the extended date April 5, 2024.
