In a startling revelation, DMK President MK Stalin has been accused of perjury after it was uncovered that his party received a significant sum of Rs. 509 crore from lottery kingpin San Diego Martin, contradicting Stalin’s sworn affidavit claiming otherwise. This revelation has sparked controversy and raised questions about the veracity of Stalin’s statements in court.
The allegations against Stalin emerged in the aftermath of details regarding Electoral Bonds (EB) donations being made public following Supreme Court orders. According to these details, the DMK emerged as one of the major beneficiaries, receiving a staggering Rs 79.69 crore per Lok Sabha MP over the past five years. This revelation directly contradicts Stalin’s earlier claims, exposing him to accusations of perjury.
Stalin’s false affidavit was in response to a case filed against a Tamil weekly, Junior Vikatan, for publishing a story in 2019 alleging that the DMK had received a massive election fund of Rs. 400 crores from San Diego Martin. However, the documents revealed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) now indicate otherwise, casting doubt on the accuracy of Stalin’s statements before the court.
As per details, the Electoral Bonds per Lok Sabha MP and Party Wise in last 5 years are : While the BJP recevied Rs 20.03 crore/MP, the Cong : Rs 27.3 crore/MP, AITC : Rs 73.68 crore/MP , BJD : Rs 70.5 crore/MP , DMK : Rs 79.69 crore/MP , BRS : Rs 200.43 crore/MP , YSR : Rs 20.13 crore/MP, TDP : Rs 110.3 crore/MP . The BJP which has a government in more than 10 states, received over Rs 8.25 crore, while the DMK which has a presence in one state could garner Rs. 656 crores.
The discrepancy between Stalin’s affidavit and the disclosed information has led to calls for accountability and potential legal action. Despite the damning evidence against his party, Stalin continues to deflect attention by accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of being the primary beneficiary of electoral bonds. Speaking at a rally in Mumbai, organised as part of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay yatra, Stalin lambasted the BJP, labelling electoral bonds as a “scam” and accusing the party of corruption.
Stalin’s remarks aimed at the BJP highlight the political tension surrounding the issue of electoral bonds and the broader debate on corruption in Indian politics. He criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the BJP had collected a whopping Rs 8,000 crores in the name of electoral bonds, portraying it as a form of “white-collar corruption.”
Furthermore, Stalin emphasised the need for unity in India and predicted that the BJP, known for its divisive politics, would soon be ousted from power. He pointed to what he perceived as the BJP’s failures during Modi’s tenure, including excessive foreign trips and engaging in what he described as “fake propaganda.”

This revelation comes amidst scrutiny surrounding electoral bonds and their impact on political funding in India.
Future Gaming, owned by lottery king Santiago Martin, has been under the radar of investigative agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) since 2019. The company’s significant contribution to the DMK raises questions about the transparency and accountability of political financing.
According to data shared by the Election Commission, Future Gaming emerged as the top buyer of electoral bonds, purchasing bonds worth a staggering Rs. 1,368 crore. Shockingly, 37 percent of these bonds were directed towards MK Stalin’s party, highlighting the significant financial backing received by the DMK through this channel.
In response to mounting concerns, the DMK submitted details of the electoral bonds to the Election Commission on November 14, 2023. However, the party’s explanation that the Electoral Bonds scheme does not mandate the disclosure of donor details by the authorised bank raises further questions about transparency in political funding.
As per data available issued by ECI on EBs on Sunday, the biggest overall political donor through the EB route across the nation, deposited contributions for DMK in four tranches – purchasing bonds worth Rs 60 crore between Oct 23, 2020 and October 29 , 2020, Rs 249 crore between April 5 2021 and January 13 2022, Rs.160 crore between April 11 and October 12 2022 and finally, Rs 40 crore on April 20,2023. DMK’s other major donors through EBs during this period (2019-20and 2023-24 were Mega Infrastructure (Rs.105 crore) (which figures among the top donors and has faced probes), India Cements (Rs. 14 crore, Sun TV Network (Rs. 10 crore), Triveni Rs.8 crore and Ramco Cements Rs 5 crore. IPC franchise Chennai Super Kings and its promoter India Cements have emerged as the major donors of the AIADMK through EBs. All EBs redeemed by the AIADMK were issued by India Cements and CSK, barring two from one Gopal Srinivasan and an individual donor. AIADMK received Rs 6 crore from India Cements and CSK donated Rs. 1 crore thrice and 29 bonds of 10 lakh each.
AIADMK general secretary Edapadi K Palaniswamy said on X, “It was exposed that the DMK received Rs 509 crore through electoral bonds from Future Gamings, which runs the lottery and (online) gambling. The people of the state will teach a fitting lesson to the DMK leader, MK Stalin, about receiving funds from a firm that exploits and loots the hard earned money from the people “.
While information regarding Rs 509 crore was made public through the documents submitted by the DMK, the donation of the remaining Rs 859 crore is still in darkness. Will DMK reveal their identities before pointing fingers at others?
