In a joint operation by Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh police, as many as six accused, including two Maoist cadres, were nabbed from the Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, March 13. According to the information received, the arrested accused were residing in a poultry farm while portraying themselves as labourers.

The operation was conducted following reliable input provided by the Jharkhand police after which the accused were arrested by the Chhattisgarh police, informed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ankit Garg.

Among those arrested is Tunesh Oraon, alias Ravi, area commander of the outlawed Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), a splinter group of a proscribed CPI Maoist, and his close acquaintance RamLakda, another active cadre of the JJMP. The other four accused nabbed by the police are reported to be local residents of Jashpur.

The police team has also seized an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 90 live cartridges from the possession of the accused. The arrest of the accused has been made in Karma village under the Narayanur police station limits of Jashpur. A total of 31 cases pertaining to loot, dacoity, and abduction are pending against the accused in Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh and other adjoining areas of Jharkhand.

Briefing the media about the development Ankit Garg, IG, Surguja Range, informed me that the area has been free from Maoist activities for a long time, and even the State assembly elections of 2023 were held peacefully. The arrest showcases the smooth coordination between the Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh police.

Jharkhand police had shared real time information with us on the basis of which the accused have been arrested, Further cooperation between the police of both states will continue, added IG Garg.

Three Maoists were held from Hazaribagh

It is noteworthy that earlier, the Jharkhand police had also arrested as many as three cadres of the banned Tritiye Sammelan Prastuti Commiittee (TSPC), another splinter group of the outlawed CPI Maoist, on Tuesday.

As per the details, the arrest was made following an exchange of fire that took place between the security forces and the outlaws in the Gudkuwan Pahadi area under the Badkagaon police station limits of Hazaribagh district on March 11.
