Addressing an impressive public gathering in Bastar, Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister (CM) CM Vishnu Deo Sai on Tuesday, March 12, that Naxalism (Maoism) is the biggest obstacle to the development of the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.

Participating in a divisional conference of primary minor forest produce committees and joint forest management committees in Kondagaon of Bastar, the CM remarked that the security camps being established here are also camps of development, and alongside ensuring security for the people of Bastar, their development will also be done through these camps.

The CM, via an official statement, further asserted that the State government has commenced the Niyad Nellanaar (Yours good village) Scheme, which will ensure full-fledged development of the villages falling within the five-kilometre radius of the security camps.

The residents of these villages will be provided with the benefits of over 25 basic facilities, additionally, the villagers will also benefit from more than 30 individual centric government schemes.

Further, CM Sai took to X and informed that the incumbent State government had promised to increase the rate of Tendu leaf collection from Rs 4000 to Rs 5000 per standard bag, We have announced its launch today, and soon we will also commence the “Charan Paduka Scheme.”

The BJP government is working continuously for the progress and prosperity of the tribals.

Security cover provided to BJP leaders of Bastar

Notably, the CM’s remark has come at a time when the government has recently decided to provide security covers to as many as 43 leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Bastar amidst the looming threat of Maoist attack.

The development occurred after a number of leaders of the BJP’s Bijapur district unit penned a letter to the Union Home Minister seeking security cover amidst the threat of targeted killing.

It is noteworthy that the extremists have been carrying out acts of violence and have already killed as many as three civilians, including two local BJP leaders, in the Bijapur district of Bastar in the month of March alone.

Significantly, the incumbent State government, after assuming the office, has time and again reiterated that it will push for development works alongside the ensuing security of the citizens of the Maoist-affected regions of the State.

In between, the government has also offered the outlaws to engage in talks either on table or virtually. Despite the government’s resolve to push for a solution, the extremists, on the other hand, have been carrying out acts of violence at regular intervals, including violence against political representatives.

It must be noted that the State of Chhattisgarh has been a victim of left wing insurgency since long, and the tribal dominated Bastar division of the State is considered as the strongest bastion of the outlaws.

Notably, the security forces in recent times have managed to make inroads in the core Maoist zones of the state, such as in Sukma and Bijapur districts, where they have established dozens of security camps, including the tactical headquarters at Puverti village, an alleged headquarters of the extremists.
