In another incident of unleashing violence against civilians, cadres of the banned Maoist outfit killed a 35-year-old youth of Maoist affected Bijapur district on Sunday. March 10. According to the reports, the body of the slain youth was traced by the local residents near Telipetha on Monday morning, March 11.

The deceased youth has been identified as Pusu Hemla, a resident of Telipetha village under the Kutru police station limits of Bijapur who had been missing since Friday. The youth was allegedly kidnapped by the outlaws who later killed him by labelling him an espinoge.

According to the details received, Hemala was abducted by the cadres of the Bhairamgarh Area Committee of the proscribed CPI Maoist, who also left a leaflet near the deceased body. The Maoists in the leaflet have accused Hemala of working as an informant for the police.

Upon receiving information about the incident, a police team also rushed to the spot and took possession of the body, while an extensive search operation has been launched in the vicinity to nab the Maoists involved in the gruesome act.

Security cover provided to BJP leaders of Bastar

Notably, the incident occurred a day after the State government decided to provide security cover to as many as 43 leaders of the Bhartiya Janata Party of the Maoist affected Bastar division.

The development occurred days after the BJP head of the BIjapur district penned a letter to the Union Home Minister and asked for security cover for party office-bearers, citing the looming threat of Maoist attack on party workers.

According to the reports, a few of the BJP leaders have been provided with the X category of security cover, while the BJP district president of core insurgency-hit Sukma district, Dhaniram Barse has been provide a Y category security cover.

Significantly, as many as 8 leaders associated with the BJP have been killed in separate attacks carried out by the Maoists in the Bastar division of the State in almost a years time.

Back-to-back incidents of killings in Bijapur

It is noteworthy that as many as two functionaries of the BJP were brutally killed by the Maoists within a span of only five days in back-to-back killings that jolted the Maoist infested Bijapur district on March 1 and March 6.

In the first incident, a BJP worker identified as Tirupati Katlu was stabbed to death by a Small Action Team (SAT) of the Maoists when the latter was returning from a wedding function on March 1.

The extremists carried out the attack only 700 metres from the Toynar police station, where they stopped and stabbed Katlu with knives and other sharp edged weapons before fleeing the scene. A gravely injured Katlu was then immediately rushed to a nearby healthcare facility by the locals, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Days later, the extremists also abducted and killed the Vyapar Prakoshtha block vice president, Kailash Nag who was reviewing a development work of the forest department’s neat Kotmeta forest area under the Jangla police station limits.
