In a distressing turn of events, a purported case of love jihad has surfaced in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district, where a Hindu girl has come forward with harrowing allegations of coercion and forced religious conversion.

According to reports, the 20-year-old victim was allegedly lured away from her village near Chhapia police station by the accused, identified as Sabir, two years ago. Sabir, a 21-year-old resident of Narayanpur in the Chhapia police station area, reportedly ensnared the young woman into a relationship and subsequently persuaded her to flee with him to Lucknow.

Once in Lucknow, Sabir is said to have taken the girl to a maulvi, who facilitated her conversion to Islam, after which the accused purportedly performed nikah, or a Muslim wedding ceremony, with her. Shocking footage of the conversion and marriage has since gone viral on social media platforms, adding weight to the victim’s claims.

However, the victim’s ordeal did not end there. She alleges that upon arriving at her in-laws’ residence in Chhapia, she was subjected to physical and emotional abuse. Locked in a room for days on end, she claims to have endured beatings and relentless pressure to embrace Islam. Despite the coerced conversion and nikah, the abuse persisted, allegedly at the hands of Sabir, his father Abdul, and mother Sirajul Nisha.

The victim, determined to seek justice, managed to escape to Lucknow, where she sought refuge and assistance from the Gonda Superintendent of Police’s office. There, she lodged a formal complaint against her husband Sabir, as well as his father and mother, accusing them of assault, forced conversion, and coercing her into the marriage.

Authorities have taken swift action, with a case filed at the Chhapia police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Additional Superintendent of Police Radheshyam Rai has assured that thorough investigations are underway and measures will be taken to address the allegations.

The gravity of this incident underscores the need for vigilance against such coercive practices and highlights the importance of safeguarding individuals’ rights and freedoms, irrespective of their religious affiliations. As the investigation progresses, the plight of the victim serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals ensnared in situations of duress and manipulation.
