Rebel Member of Parliament (MP) from the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), K Raghu Ramakrishna Raju, tendered his resignation from the party’s primary membership on Saturday. His resignation letter was addressed to YSRCP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The Lok Sabha member from Narsapuram constituency wrote that the “Your multiple and steady efforts like Mohammad Gajni to get me disqualified from my Parliamentary Membership haven’t yielded till date your desired result”.

“However, every time you made an attempt, I also have equally made laudable, positive and even more powerful efforts working for my constituency and its holistic development as well its constituents at Narsapuram for the last 3.5 years despite of your hostility and malicious brutal acts to physically eliminate me,” wrote K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju.

“As the time has come for all of us to face the public probity and mandate, it will free both of us from this unsavoury association once for all,” he added.

Speculations are high that the rebel MP is inclined towards joining the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and is contemplating contesting again from Narsapuram constituency in the upcoming elections.

This move follows Raju’s earlier statement in January 2022, where he expressed his intent to resign and contest in a by-election if YSRCP failed to secure his disqualification.

On several occasions, MP Raghu Ramakrishna Raju openly criticised the YSRCP party’s policies in sparking a rebellion within its ranks.

In fact, he wrote a letter to all parliamentary members alleging that he is facing life threat from Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

In 2021, MP Raghurama Krishnam Raju submitted a report on the alleged financial frauds committed by Jagan Mohan Reddy and Vijay Sai Reddy in addition to the chargesheets pending in the CBI court.

He was also arrested in Hyderabad by AP’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) on charges of sedition, disturbing communal harmony, and attacking dignitaries of the Jagan Reddy government.

In July 2020, the YSRCP lodged a disqualification petition against him with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Party leaders pointed out Raju’s continuous derogatory remarks against the party, asserting that his conduct was unacceptable, and he had forfeited the moral right to represent the party in the House.

In 2023, he urged ED to probe into alleged foreign fund irregularities by Tuticorin NGOs.
