Haldwani: MIM leader and criminal Salman Khan on radar after his video of distributing money to Islamists goes viral

Salman Khan, the leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), was captured on video engaging in the distribution of money to his fellow Islamist men. The incident has sparked controversy, with some questioning Khan's motives behind the gesture, especially considering his criminal record

Salman Khan, the leader of AIMIM, was observed distributing money to the people of Uttarakhand’s Haldwani. In the video, he is shown meeting people in the streets who are said to have been victims of recent police action in the state when police attempted to remove unlawful land after obtaining the necessary permits.

As per the input received from a research associate at CSIS, it should be mentioned, however, that Salman Khan is a repeat offender who recently completed his jail term after Hyderabad Police invoked the PD Act against him.

Salman Khan rose to prominence during the COVID period, when he founded Hyderabad Youth Courage, an NGO, and began obtaining and dispersing funds. He is alleged to have misappropriated the money that was raised under the guise of aiding the poor on multiple occasions. As a result, Hyderabad police repeatedly arrested him after conducting raids at his home.

In the press release issued on March 21, 2021, by Hyderabad Police, it was mentioned that Salman Khan, a resident of Humayun Nagar, Hyderabad, committed offences of cheating the gullible people to acquire easy and illegal money under the guise of helping the people suffering from various ailments for their treatment along with his associates in an organised manner within the limits of the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate, and he has been creating large scale fear and panic among the general public, thereby adversely affecting the public order, apart from disturbing the peace, tranquility and social harmony in the society.

He was also involved in spreading communal tensions in the city. He was one of the accused in raising the slogans against Nupur Sharma, and Raja Singh in 2022.

He met Amjed Ullah Khan, the spokesperson for Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), which is seen as an alternative group to AIMIM in Hyderabad, following Salma Khan’s release from jail.

He joined the AIMIM party on October 23 and still he is carrying out the activity of collecting and distributing the money.

In connection with the Haldwani occurrences, he conveyed a communally sensitive message through the victimisation narrative on social media.

Keeping this record of Salman Khan, it is suspicious on the agenda of MIM and leadership on the Haldwani police action.
