Ameen Sayani, the legendary radio host widely celebrated for his iconic show “Binaca Geet Mala,” breathed his last at the age of 91, as confirmed by his family on February 21. The veteran presenter succumbed to heart failure in a Mumbai hospital.

Ameen Sayani, whose voice resonated with millions across the country, suffered a heart attack on Tuesday night, February 20, prompting his immediate admission to a hospital. Unfortunately, medical efforts were unable to save the stalwart of Indian radio broadcasting.

Rajil Sayani, Ameen Sayani’s son, confirmed the demise, stating, “He passed away at around 7:00 pm of heart attack at the HN Reliance hospital.”

The news of Ameen Sayani’s passing has sent shockwaves throughout the nation, with fans and admirers expressing deep sorrow over the loss of a cultural icon. Known for his distinctive and warm greeting, “Namaskar bhaiyon aur behno, main aapka dost Ameen Sayani bol raha hoon” (Greetings, brothers and sisters, your friend Ameen Sayani speaking), his introductions on Radio Ceylon continue to evoke powerful nostalgia.

Ameen Sayani’s illustrious career spanned decades, and his contribution to the world of Indian radio remains unparalleled. “Binaca Geet Mala,” a music countdown show hosted by him, became a cultural phenomenon and earned him widespread acclaim.
