In a fierce gunfight with police and law enforcement agencies, a 23-year-old man named Romeo Nance committed suicide by shooting himself in Texas with a gun after he reportedly killed eight people in three locations in the American city of Chicago in state of Illinois

Chicago Shooting 2024 Incident Suspect: Romeo Nance

Twenty-three-year-old Romeo Nance, wanted as a suspect in the fatal shooting of eight people in suburban Chicago, shot himself fatally following a confrontation with law enforcement officials in Texas. In a Facebook post, the police said Nance was traced was traced near Natalia, Texas after which he was shot himself dead.

Charges on Nance

Nance was suspected of fatally shooting eight people at three locations in suburbs of Chicago sparking research that left neighbours on edge earlier on January 22, 2024. The police had warned that he was still on the loose and should be considered armed and dangerous. The police say that motive of the killings was not clear, but Nance knew the victims.

One of the victims was found dead January 21, 2024 in a home at Will County. Seven others were found January 22, 2024 at two homes at the same block in Joliet located about 9.6 km northwest of the scene discovered first. Authorities said they discovered Nance was connected to another shooting incident in Joliet that wounded a man on January 21, 2024, but did not discuss their evidence.

Police Investigation

The Joliet Police Chief Willam Evans said “I have been a policeman for 29 years and this is probably the worst crime scene that I have ever been associated with. Joliet Police also said they were investigating multiple people found dead and images of a vehicle along with Nance’s photos. The car has been identified as a red Toyota Camry.

Will County Chef Deputy Dan Jungles said during January 21, 2024 during the January 22, 2024 news conference that the deputies had been staking out one of the houses since January 21, 2024 in case Nance the first suspect in the fatal shooting, they discovered returned to them. Nance last known address was one of their homes, police said.

When no one showed up, the deputies finally went to the doors of one of the houses No one answered, so they crossed the street to the other house which they knew was linked to the first house and found the first bodies. Later the two bodies were found at another house. Five bodies were found in one house and two were found in the other.

Impact on People

Teresa Smart lives about a block away from where seven of the victims were found and had said she was worried she and her family wouldn’t be able to sleep on the night of January 22, 2024 “This is way too close to home,” she said, adding that police cars had been blocking streets throughout the neighborhood. “I keep looking out the window and double checking my doors,” she said. “It’s super scary.
