Guwahati: In a significant display of commitment to cleanliness and spiritual well-being, Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah and Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in the “Swachh Teerth Abhiyan” at the Mahabhairab Temple in Tezpur. The initiative is part of a nationwide drive to purify places of worship in preparation for the “Pran Patistha” ceremony of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on January 22.

The distinguished leaders engaged in a dedicated cleanliness drive within the temple premises, setting the tone for a broader mission endorsed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The objective is to maintain the sanctity of religious sites, emphasising the importance of cleanliness and hygiene.

After offering prayers at the historic Mahabhairav Temple, Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his spiritual sentiments, stating, “Har Har Mahadev! Today, I offered puja at the ancient Mahabhairav Temple in Tezpur, Assam, praying for the happiness and prosperity of the people. This temple, with its unique spiritual power, houses one of the world’s largest Shiva Lingas, radiating glorious energy and profound faith.”

Shah emphasised Prime Minister Modi’s call for cleanliness across temples nationwide in conjunction with the consecration of Lord Shri Ram in Ayodhya. Reflecting on the day’s efforts, he urged all citizens to embrace the Swachh Teerth Abhiyan, stating, “I appeal to all countrymen that you should also clean the temples around you and develop the habit of always keeping them clean.”

The cleaning initiative at the historic Maha Bhairav Temple aligns with the broader vision of maintaining cultural and spiritual heritage. In addition to their active participation in the Swachh Teerth Abhiyan, both Amit Shah and Himanta Biswa Sarma took part in a cultural event held in their honour at Tezpur Central University, further strengthening the connection between civic duty, spirituality, and cultural enrichment.
