Communist terrorists have sparked fear in Thirunelli, Wayanad, as posters threatening revenge for the alleged ‘encounter death’ of Kavita Lakshmi, a red terrorist, have surfaced. The posters, attributed to the Western Ghats Sector Committee, claim that Kavita was killed in an encounter with Thunderbolt, the anti-Red terrorist squad of the Kerala Police, on November 13, 2023, at Ayyankunnu Njettiathottil, Kannur district.
The posters, adorned with messages in Malayalam such as “Lal Salaam to Com. Kavita,” “Com. Kavita was martyred,” and “We will avenge,” convey a menacing tone, vowing retaliation for the alleged death.
Despite the posters and the assertions made, the police have not officially confirmed the death of Kavita. The emergence of the terrorist threats follows a series of escalating attacks by red terrorists, including the vandalisation of the Forest Development Corporation office on September 24. On November 7, violence erupted in Chapparam Colony, leading to the apprehension of two Maoists. Reports suggest that the encounter on November 13 may be linked to these incidents. Earlier communications from the police indicated the seizure of firearms from the forests and the arrest of some terrorists, raising speculation that the deceased might be one among the injured individuals.
These developments underscore the persistent threat of red terrorism in the forested areas of northern Kerala, with indications of an expansion of their activities. The incidents point to the urgent need for the Kerala Home Ministry to implement stricter measures to counteract the influence of anti-national forces and safeguard the region from potential terrorist activities. The state authorities are urged to remain vigilant and proactive in addressing the security concerns posed by these extremist elements in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the local populace.
