Bittu Bajrangi accuses Alt News co-founder Zubair and Hindustan Times of spreading fake news; vows to take legal action

In a recent development, Bittu Bajrangi, the president of Gau Raksha Bajrang Force, released a video on December 24 accusing Alt News’ co-founder, Mohammed Zubair, and Hindustan Times (HT) of peddling a fake story against his brother.

HT’s report claimed that Bittu Bajrangi’s brother had faked an assault, where he supposedly sustained 60 percent burns on his body. Zubair, in turn, widely shared this information on social media, presenting it as the truth. However, police officials investigating the matter rejected HT‘s report, stating that the investigation was ongoing.

In his video statement, Bittu Bajrangi expressed, “I am facing a painful phase of conspiracy against me. Me and my family are the target of anti-social elements. Hindustan Times and Mohammed Zubair took advantage of my silence. They made false reports viral against me.” He acknowledged that the reporter who wrote the report is his sister and downplayed the ideological differences.

Bajrangi asserted, “The day you become a victim of Love Jihad or conspiracy-like Nikita Tomar, Bittu Bajrangi will stand with you as well.” Addressing Mohammed Zubair, he announced plans to file a case against him in Faridabad, emphasizing that legal action would be taken against those who published the fake news.

Zubair, known for his misleading fact-checking, had shared multiple posts on social media against Bittu Bajrangi and his brother since the publication of the alleged fake news by Hindustan Times. In one post on X, Zubair wrote, “Cow vigilante #BittuBajrangi’s brother faked assault: Police,” sharing the link to the HT report. However, it was noted that the “fact-checker” did not verify if Faridabad Police had made any such statement.

Bittu Bajrangi’s statement denying the claims in the HT report was included on the day of the report’s publication. Notably, Zubair shared the post on December 24, two days after the original HT report was updated. However, Zubair seemingly overlooked Bittu Bajrangi’s statement mentioned in the HT report.

Notably, The Faridabad Police has denied the claims in a report by the Hindustan Times (HT) which quotes a police officer to claim that the case of the attack on Hindu activist Bittu Bajrangi’s brother was fake.

While talking to OpIndia, the Faridabad Police has denied the claims in the HT report. When informed about the HT report, ACP Faridabad asked who in the force had declared this case fake.

He said that it is true that no evidence has been found against the accused in this case so far, but it does not mean that the case is said to be fake. He has confirmed that Bittu Bajrangi’s brother has been burnt.

He said that it is a matter of investigation as to how he got burnt, who burnt him and for what reason. He said that till now no one has been given a clean chit nor has the investigation ended, but the investigation is still going on.

On December 13, an attempt was made on the life of Bittu Bajrangi’s brother, Mahesh. The assailants poured thinner on him in Dabua Colony of Faridabad, Haryana, and set him on fire. Mahesh sustained severe burn injuries on 60 percent of his body and was initially treated in a local hospital before being referred to Delhi.
