A week after the newly formed government assumed office after a resounding victory in the Chhattisgarh assembly elections, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed its new president in the State on Thursday, December 21.

“The BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda has appointed Kiran Singh Deo as BJP Chhattisgarh unit president with immediate effect”, read the press note issued by the national general secretary of the BJP, Arun Kumar.

Singh Deo, a first time MLA from Jagdalpur will replace the party’s legislator from Lormi, Arun Sao who has recently assumed charge as a Deputy Chief Minister (Dy CM) of the state along with Vijay Sharma the party’s MLA from kawardha.

Earlier Singh Deo contested the only unreserved seat of the Bastar region that is from Jagdalpur constituency where he defeated the Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Jeetan jaiswal with a margin of around 29000 votes.

A lawyer by profession, Kiran Singh Deo is considered as one of the most reliable faces in the party who had also assumed many roles in the party in the past as well. Kiran Deo also contested and won the municipal corporation elections of Jagdalpur and became the mayor of the town in the year 2009, a position he held till 2014. He was also in-charge of the Bilaspur division of the BJP before the commencement of state assembly elections.

Many leaders of the BJP including the Chief Minister (CM) Vishnu Deo Sai, congratulated the newly appointed president of the party and extended wishes to the latter. Taking to the X, CM Sai in a post, while congratulating Singh Deo, said that “he firmly believes that the party will reach to new heights in Chhattisgarh under your able leadership.”

@KiranDeoBJP pic.twitter.com/GFNAeML6Mr

Further the BJP president of the Jharkhand unit, Babu Lal Marandi in a post also extended his wishes to Singh Deo and wrote that “he expresses hope that Singh Deo will further take out the policies and principles of the party to the masses by strengthening the organisational structure.”

It is to be noted that the BJP registered an empathetic win in the recently concluded State assembly elections and made a comeback in the mineral rich State after a significant gap of five years. The party secured victory over as many as 54 seats out of the 90 seats assembly winning dominantly in the tribal (Janjati) dominated regions of the state.
