Itanagar: In a remarkable display of efficiency and swift action, the Kurung Kumey District Police in Arunachal Pradesh, under the leadership of Neelam Nega, SP (In-charge), successfully rescued a minor girl within 24 hours after a distressing live video surfaced on Facebook. The incident unfolded on the night of November 22 at 11 pm, prompting immediate intervention from the law enforcement authorities.
Upon receiving information about the live video, Neelam Nega directed Deputy SP, Kurung Kumey to start the probe in the matter. The video, shared by journalist Migom Toko, depicted a minor girl, presumed to be of Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe (APST) descent, travelling with a Muslim male on a train from Naharlagun to Guwahati. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) had apprehended the pair on suspicion of kidnapping.
The timely intervention of the police, fueled by the shared video, played a crucial role in expediting the investigation and rescue. The minor girl and the accused, identified as 23-year-old Dilwar Hussain from Hojai District, Assam, and a former driver in Nyapin Township, were detained by the Railway Protection Force in Rangapara North, Sonitpur District, Assam. As per the report, the Muslim man Dilwar Hussain abducted the minor tribal girl to marry her in his hometown in Assam. But some alert calls by a few journalists and social activists and timely action by police prompted the rescue of the minor tribal girl.
As the news unfolded, the parents of the minor girl were promptly informed, and a dedicated police team from Nyapin, led by SI Tajing Jamoh, was dispatched to the location for the rescue mission. The operation, executed with precision, resulted in the successful recovery of the minor girl and the apprehension of Dilwar Hussain in the wee hours of November 23.
In adherence to proper legal procedures, a case was registered under Section 363 of the IPC based on a written complaint. SI Tajing Jamoh has been assigned to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. The District Child Protection Unit has also been notified to ensure comprehensive care and support for the rescued minor.
The minor girl, after completing all necessary legal formalities, was reunited with her parents. The Kurung Kumey District Police expressed their gratitude to the Railway Protection Force, Rangapara North, and journalist Migom Toko for their pivotal roles in ensuring the safety of the innocent minor girl. The collaborative efforts of all involved parties showcased a commitment to positive societal change and the protection of vulnerable individuals.
Locals say that this is not the first time that Muslim boys from Assam are trying to abduct local tribal girls. Such incidents are taking place at regular intervals.
