On the night of November 19, the West Bengal police apprehended seven Bangladeshi youths for unlawfully entering India without visas. The arrests took place in Bilaspur, falling within the jurisdiction of the Karandighi Police Station in North Dinajpur district. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the individuals lacked proper documents, leading to their arrest for the illegal entry into India.
According to reports, a team from the Karandighi Police Station was conducting patrols along the 12th National Highway on the night of November 20. In the vicinity of the Bilaspur area, the police encountered several youths standing beside the road. The police detained them and subsequently brought them to the police station for further inquiry.
During the interrogation, the individuals revealed that they were citizens of Bangladesh but were unable to present any valid documents for their stay in India. Subsequently, they admitted to entering India illegally with the assistance of an agent, expressing their intention to seek employment in various cities.
Following this disclosure, the police proceeded to arrest them. The arrested individuals are identified as Dabirul Islam (32), Rejaul Karim (36), Nurzzaman Miya (32), Muhammed Raihan Kabir (22), Muhammed Monir Hussian (19), Muhammed Ashraful (36), and Muhammed Mehedi Hasan (29). They hail from Thakurgaon, Satkhira, Kurigram, and Comilla districts of Bangladesh.
On November 20, they were presented before the Islampur Sub-Divisional Court, where the Judge ordered 14 days of judicial custody for them.
According to a Deccan Herald report from September of this year, the Border Security Force (BSF) disclosed that a total of forty-five individuals, predominantly Bangladeshis, were apprehended in distinct operations in West Bengal for attempting to illegally cross the international border.
Of the individuals detained, 32 were Bangladeshis attempting to enter India, while the remaining 13 were Indians seeking to cross the border into the neighboring country. The Singamora border outpost personnel made 20 arrests involving Bangladeshi women, four children, and a man, with these detentions occurring in three separate operations.
According to a report by India Today, in May of this year, the Malda Police apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals attempting to illegally cross the Indo-Bangladesh border. Officials revealed that the trio had unlawfully entered India from Bangladesh approximately two years ago, paying 30,000 Bangladeshi Taka per person. The individuals were caught while attempting to return to Bangladesh.
The suspects, identified as MD Kailu (28), Mohmand Sultan Mian (20), and Mohmand Sarif Ali (23), hail from the Sylhet division of Bangladesh, as confirmed by Malda District Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pradeep Kumar Yadav. A case of trespassing was filed against them, initiating police investigations.
These incidents are just a few among numerous cases of illegal border crossings from Bangladesh to India through Bengal.
