Aizawl: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Jagat Prakash Nadda on October 27 released the party’s manifesto for the upcoming Mizoram elections. The poll in the northeastern state will be held on  November 7 in a single phase. BJP’s National President J P Nadda released the manifesto in a ceremony at the party’s state head office in Aizawl. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, Mizoram BJP state president were also present on the occasion.

Unveiling the party’s “Vision Document” President Nadda said that the BJP’s vision is to create a ‘Drug-Free Mizoram’ and to curb drug addiction among the youth across the state, for which the party will launch a massive campaign in the state.

BJP’s Vision Document also talks about modern education facilities for the youth of the state. President Nadda mentioned that his party wants to launch a mission titled ‘Mizoram Education Upgrade’ and ‘Zirlai Simathawana Mission’ with a budget to the tune of Rs 250 crore and Rs 350 crore respectively, to revamp the existing government schools and colleges in Mizoram and equip it with state-of-the-art facilities.

President Nadda further said that the BJP also commits to establishing a Mizoram Sports Academy, which will be fully funded by the government and have scholarships for aspiring athletes, with a strong emphasis on sports like football, wrestling, weightlifting, hockey, badminton, etc.

BJP’s vision document also mentioned that the party wants to launch a Mizoram Olympic Mission to establish Mizoram as a leading sporting state in the region and ensure that Mizo youths make substantial contributions in the medal tally of the Olympics for the country along with its neighbouring states. The BJP manifesto also promises to upgrade the lone medical College of the hilly state Zoram Medical College as a Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) under a central government scheme.

J P Nadda further said that his party would introduce the “Queen Ropuiliani Women Empowerment Scheme” where every girl child will be offered cumulative financial assistance to the tune of Rs 1.5 lakhs. Moreover, the saffron party vision document promises 33 per cent reservations for women in the government sector. Besides these, the BJP also promises to increase annual health insurance coverage under the Ayushman Bharat scheme from 5 lakhs to 10 lakhs. President Nadda also announced that the annual financial assistance of Rs 6000 under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sammaan Nidhi scheme for farmers would be increased to Rs 8000.

Further, BJP also promises to introduce the “Mizo Agri Mission” with an investment of Rs 1000 crores to revamp the agricultural infrastructure of the farmers of the state. Besides that the vision document also promises to resolve the long-pending boundary issues with Assam in collaboration with the Central government and the Assam government. Nadda also said that they would ensure that the rights of the residents of Mizoram were protected at all costs. Speaking at the occasion, President Nadda said that the BJP believes in the politics of report card and not in vote bank politics. He said, “We believe in report card politics.

The political culture of the country has been changed by Prime Minister Modi. Initially, people used to fight elections on the basis of religion, caste, creed, area, and region. These were the factors of every election, and parties used to collect votes based on the politics of the vote bank.. But since Prime Minister Modi has come to power, the definition of politics has changed in the entire country. Now the definition of politics is politics of performance, politics of accountability, and politics of development of every region, each caste, and every creed.

There should not be any gender discrimination. There should not be any caste discrimination. There should not be any regional discrimination. In the last nine years people of this region have seen how the priority of the central government has changed towards the Northeast. The region has seen all-round development under the leadership of PM Modi. This is how the BJP works, and the party has gone forward,” President Nadda added.
