In two different Hindu processions, Islamists have pelted stones both in Kushinagar and Aligarh districts. In Kushinagar, Islamists were irked over Jai Shri Ram slogans raised by the participants of Navratri Kalash Yatra, whereas in Aligarh, Ram Barat met the same fate. In Kushinagar, the police declined any communal angle irrespective of the videos claiming the same. In Aligarh, the police detained the accused and started interrogating them. Aligarh Clash
On the inaugural day of Navratri, the Nav Durga Puja Seva Samiti orchestrated a vibrant Kalash Yatra through the village. As the procession traversed into an area predominantly inhabited by the Muslim community, a few members expressed discomfort at the resounding chants of “Jai Shri Ram” and regrettably resorted to pelting stones at the procession. Tragically, a 6-year-old named Piyush, who had joined the procession without his mother’s watchful eye, was inadvertently injured during this incident. Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar, Piyush’s mother explained that she had gone to offer her prayers at the temple, unaware that Piyush had joined the procession. Fortunately, Piyush’s injuries were minor, a result of the stone pelting.
In Chandos, Aligarh, a parallel incident unfolded, involving a clash between two communities. Allegedly, members of the Muslim community instigated an attack on the Ram Baraat procession. According to accounts, the procession was targeted with stones, and attendees were subjected to assaults with iron rods. Subsequent to this distressing event, leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Hindu organisations organised a sit-in protest outside the police station, fervently calling for the apprehension of the perpetrators.
As per the First Information Report (FIR number—287/2023) at the Chandos police station on October 16, by Vishnu Sharma. In his complaint Sharma told the police that, as soon as the Ram Barat reached the Khair Adda, the Islamists abused him and one of them attacked him, soon scuffle broke out.
As per the reports, Annually, Hindus arrange the Ram Baraat on the inaugural day of Navratri. Unfortunately, this year’s procession was marred by an attack. Numerous individuals are said to have suffered injuries. The assailants purportedly arrived wielding sticks and swords, specifically targeting the Hindu participants.
Infuriated Hindus congregated outside the Chandos police station, voicing their demand for swift action. In response to their complaint, the police promptly registered an FIR, leading to the subsequent arrest of one individual involved.
The District Magistrate (DM) and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Aligarh Range swiftly arrived to restore calm to the situation. Addressing the media, the DIG assured that the situation was now under control and emphasised that the entire incident transpired in less than two minutes. The police personnel on-site effectively managed the situation and refuted allegations of stone pelting. Furthermore, additional police forces have been dispatched to the area to preempt any potential recurrence of such incidents in the future.
