In yet another success for the security forces on the Maoists front, a female cadre of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) surrendered before the forces in the insurgency-hit Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra on Saturday, October 07.

The development occurred after Rajni alias Kalawati Samayya Veladi turned herself before the Superintendent of Police (SP), Gadchiroli, Neelotpal and surrendered. Rajni was associated with the banned outfit for a long time and carried a bounty of Rs 11 lakh on her head.

According to the reports, Veladi was recruited by the Maoist outfit in 2009 and was assigned to a Local Organisation Squad (LOS). She was further transferred to the Orchha LOS and worked there till 2013 following which she was promoted as a member of the Area Committee.

Veladi further worked with the national park doctor team and with Sandra LOS before parting ways with the Maoist outfit. She has been part of the various encounters between the security forces and the Maoist including the bejji encounter in 2017 where as many as 12 security personnel were martyred, informed officials familiar with the details.

Due to her active involvement with the banned group, both the state government of Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra have announced a reward of Rs 6 and 5 lakh respectively on her. While surrendering, Rajni confessed that the male members of the outfit often discriminate with their female counterparts which finally motivated her to part ways from the proscribed group.

Rajni would be provided a sum of Rs 4.5 lakhs under the surrender and rehabilitation scheme of the centre and the Maharashtra government, informed Gadchiroli police.

Hardcore Maoist killed in encounter in Kolhan region

It’s been reported that the development occured when the Maoist were celebrating their foundation week. Though, the Jharkhand police has so far not confirmed the development.
