Russian President Vladimir Putin criticised Western attempts to label those who do not unquestionably follow Western elites as “enemies” while applauding India’s steadfast focus on its own path.
Putin expressed his perspective on the global stage, highlighting the West’s efforts to categorise nations that do not conform to their policies as adversaries. He noted that India had not been immune to such pressures but stressed that these endeavours were ultimately futile.
“I want to say that the Indian leadership is self-directed. It is led by national interests. I think that those attempts make no sense. But, they continue. They are trying to cast Arabs as the enemy. They are trying to be careful, but overall, that’s what it all boils down to,” Putin stated.
Furthermore, President Putin advocated for a more equitable representation of nations like India, Brazil, and South Africa in the United Nations Security Council. He emphasized the need for reforms within the United Nations, though he endorsed a gradual approach to such changes.
Putin did not shy away from acknowledging India’s growing global influence and stature. He lauded India as a “powerful country” with a population exceeding 1.5 billion and an economic growth rate of more than 7 percent. He credited this growth to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating, “India…that’s a powerful country, mighty country. And it’s growing stronger and stronger under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi…”
The Russian leader’s praise for India did not end there. Just a day earlier, Putin had described Prime Minister Modi as a “very wise man” and highlighted India’s impressive development strides under his leadership.
This recent praise from Putin follows his previous endorsement of India’s “Make in India” program, where he had applauded Prime Minister Modi for pursuing the right strategies to bolster domestic manufacturing.
