Science and spirituality: Developing inner space in order to achieve big accomplishments in outer space

ISRO Chief S Somanath has shown an eagerness to explore both science and spirituality. “I am an explorer.” I explore the Moon. I explore the inner world. Exploring science and spirituality is a component of my life’s journey. I go to a lot of temples and read a lot of scriptures. “I try to find the meaning of our existence and our journey in this cosmos,” he remarked during a visit to Thiruvananthapuram’s Bhadrakali temple. Exploring both our exterior and inner selves, he claims, is deeply ingrained in Bharatiya culture. He feels that science is the path to take for the outer self while visiting temples is a method to connect with spirituality for the inner self.

The inner world is a miniature version of the outer universe. As a result, the ancient sages of Bharat emphasised primarily the inner aspects so that global scientific phenomena, deep awareness of the mind, and the purpose of life could be clearly comprehended. The ancient Rishis, or scientists, could write down scientific laws, universal phenomena, space exploration, and understanding the complexity of the mind without the use of advanced laboratories or techniques; they could explore everything simply by deeply understanding the inner space and connecting it to the outer world.

The ancient scriptures of Bharat are evidence of humankind’s profound understanding of the universe, life, and inner space. Many notions and theories from Bharatiya scriptures have been copied by the Western and Islamic worlds. We should appreciate the work done by western scientists on Bharatiya texts to uncover, invent, and continue to investigate more phenomena occurring in the cosmos. However, they should wholeheartedly accept and openly tell the world that Bharatiya scriptures are the foundation for their findings; just a few scientists, scholars have openly acknowledged and spoken about Bharatiya scriptures’ deep wisdom.

To comprehend the world around us, we need to first understand the cosmos within us

We can transform our lives to their maximum potential if we train our mental faculties to focus on consciousness, examining its origins and contents. We can acquire clarity on the questions that sometimes make life so complicated by raising our consciousness.

It makes no difference what your circumstances are or how life is now treating you; ultimately, what matters is how you respond to life. Our reaction is determined by what is going on inside of us. That alone defines our life’s progress and success. A strong inner self means that you can deal with your emotions well, that you are self-aware, that you have clarity and a good understanding of your values, and that you have a sense of purpose in life. It also implies that you are capable of remaining calm and resilient in the face of external adversity.

It means that whatever happens outside of you happens in the material world, and whatever happens within of us happens in the spiritual realm. Most of us forget that our spiritual world dominates our material world, and instead of concentrating on developing our spiritual world within, we struggle to improve the material world around us. It’s as if we’re ignorantly attempting to change the result rather than the reason that caused that result.

The wisest people who understand this secret devote more time and effort to inner progress and development, making them more capable of controlling their material the outside world.

Though awakening is instant, it requires persistent practice and adhering to the “Attachment with Detachment” principle

Things take time to change in the outside world, but transformation in the inner world requires only awareness. Everything changes in an instant when the aspirant is awakened. Awakening is a revolution, not a progression. What happens when you shine a bulb in a dark and dingy house? Does it stay or does it go? How long does it take for anything to vanish? Even if the darkness has been present for years, it does not take long for it to vanish. It is immediately eliminated. The darkness will vanish as soon as you turn on the bulb. Is this a miracle to you, or do you consider it a natural law?

Meditation and making great choices in your life are vital if you want to progress. However, evolution will not take root until you pay attention to the principle of “Attachment with Detachment” daily for few minutes. Humans are not machines whose wiring can be altered simply by engaging in meditation, prayer, positive thinking, or the impact of great teachers and mentors. I’m not dismissing those ideas; they have a valuable position in the world’s wisdom traditions. But the “Attachment with Detachment” is constantly there in life, which is noisy and fretful, joyous one day and sad the next, and full of pain and pleasure in unpredictable proportions.

Our childhood, adolescence, youth, middle age, and old age are all constantly present within us. Our life experiences, beliefs, relationships, life lessons, knowledge, and wisdom. Our entire life is contained within us. To alter the exterior world, first dig deep inside to change the inner world. Trees are rooted deep within, and so are age-old beliefs and our past, so deeply within us that it takes many lifetimes to bring about true change in our lives.

If you want to make a meaningful difference in your life, learn to sit in stillness, practice meditation, notice your breath, experience your emotions, and understand your ideas, which contain your entire universe outside. Practice new activities and gain new experiences so that you might begin to see an entirely different world outside. Learn new things that interest you, gain knowledge about your interests, and apply it to your life. Before you notice any difference on the outside, you will notice it on the inside.

Children of today must take this perspective seriously. They must focus not only on the material segments of their outer world, but also on the spiritual components of their inner selves, in order to achieve greater success that is also ethical. The new education strategy will undoubtedly ensure that these features are implemented from the school level so that we may witness the best version of our future generations who will work to build not only Bharat but the entire world.
