A joint team of Security forces have neutralised a wanted Maoist in an encounter that broke out between the Ultras and the forces in Ekkawari forest area of Dhamtari district in Chhattisgarh August27.
According to the reports, acting on a tip-off about the gathering of Maoist, a joint team of personnel from Dhamtari and Gariaband District Reserve Guards (DRG) launched a combing operation in the Ekkawari forest area on Sunday. It’s been reported that when the forces were combing in the forest area, the Ultras indiscriminately fired at them, and the security forces also retaliated.
The Maoist left the area after a protracted gunfight that lasted for around two hours and claimed the lives of one of their cadres. Later, after a thorough search of the entire region by the joint team, the dead Maoist’s body and a 303 gun were found.
According to reports, Satyam Gavde, the head of the Sitandi Area Committee of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), the armed branch of the Outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist), was the Maoist cadre who was killed during the gunfight. However, the authorities have not yet verified his identity.
Maoist arrested with arms and ammunition in Dantewada
An additional Maoist-related occurrence occurred on August 27 when security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada area detained a member of the banned CPI (Maoist).
According to the information, Hemla Nanda (41) was apprehended by a joint team of personnel from DRG, Bastar Fighters, and CRPF on Sunday morning as they were conducting a search operation in the forest close to Nahadi hamlet within the boundaries of the Aranpur police station.
The said operation was launched following an intelligence input about a gathering of the Ultras in the forests near Nahadi and Chotehidma village on Saturday evening. It’s been reported that Nanda was a member of the Gumodi Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangh (DAKMS), a frontal organisation of the banned CPI (Maoist).
Confirming the arrest DSP, Dantewada, Govind Singh said that “a joint operation was launched following an intel about the presence of the senior cadres of CPI Maoist in Aranpur police station limits. During the operation the team nabbed a Maoist identified as Hemala Nanda, a resident of Jagargunda police station limits of Sukma district.”

The joint team recovered as many as two bags alongside seizing Arrow bombs , guillotine sticks, fuse wire, multimeter and Maoist literature from the possession of Nanda. A case against the arrested Maoist cadres has been lodged in the Aranpur police station limits and he is being produced before the magistrate, added DSP Singh.
Huge cache of explosives seized in Gaya
In another similar development, a joint team of Commando battalion for resolute action (CoBRA), CRPF, Special Task Force (STF) and Gaya police have unearthed a huge quantity of explosives near Pandara Pahadi region under Lutuya police station limits of insurgency-hit Gaya district of Bihar on Monday, August 28.
According to the details, the joint team during a combing operation launched in Pandara Pahadi region first unearthed a three not three rifle along with around 100 cartridges of 7.62 mm following which the team also seized and destroyed an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from the other end of the Pahadi.
The team further also seized as many as four plastic bags in which a total of 13800 detonators had been kept in hiding by the Maoist. As many as 4 bundles of codex wire, 2 basic phones, 2 walkie talkies and a uniform of the Maoist were also seized from the spot, informed Gaya police in a press release on Monday.
It is to be noted that persistent efforts are being put up by the forces to contain the left wing extremism in different regions of the country affected by the Maoist insurgency.
