In a tragic incident, a 27-year-old woman in Tamil Nadu died after her husband tried to home deliver the baby watching a YouTube video. The woman has been identified as M Loganayaki, a native of Puliampatty, close to Pochampalli. She lost her life due to heavy blood loss. After learning from worried neighbours that her 30-year-old husband, Madesh, had been watching YouTube videos on home births, the local police detained him for questioning.
According to reports, Madesh tried a traditional delivery when his wife Loganayaki started having labour pains on August 23. A baby boy was born at roughly 4 AM utilising a method he had acquired from watching videos on YouTube. But while attempting the home delivery, the deceased woman’s husband botched the umbilical cord cut, leading to uncontrollable blood loss.
Her placenta was still inside her body, which caused a haemorrhage. The family attempted to remove the placenta, but the bleeding persisted. The postpartum haemorrhage caused the woman to lose consciousness and ultimately pass away.
Around 10:30 AM, Madesh and his family then transported the mother and the infant to the adjacent Pochampalli government hospital. The mom was brought in dead, according to hospital officials, and the infant had been brought in for care.
Following the death of Loganayaki, Dr. Radhika, the medical officer at the Puliampatty Primary Health Centre (PHC), reported the incident to the authorities. Dr Radhika claims that Madesh’s family attempted to transport the deceased woman’s body to Dharmapuri without doing a postmortem until she stepped in.
According to reports, Madesh declined to have the infant receive the required vaccines and instead took the child back to Hanumanthpuram in Dharmapuri. Additionally, he declined to comment on the YouTube delivery video they had just watched.
A complaint has reportedly been filed under Section 174 of the CrPC (Code of Criminal Procedure), which deals with unnatural deaths, according to Pochampalli DSP Manoharan. Additionally, Madesh has been detained to be questioned as part of the continuing investigation, according to DSP Manoharan. He stated that he would be detained if Madesh’s claims were found to be true.
According to the reports, the couple had social work postgraduate degrees. Both Madesh and Loganayaki were passionate about eating well-balanced meals and organic farming. Loganayaki and Madesh decided to give birth at home rather than go to the hospital and receive necessary medical attention, according to PHC Medical Officer Dr Radhika. The villagers allegedly told Dr Radhika that Loganayaki had refused to take iron supplements and had advised the residents to only eat leafy vegetables.
As the pregnancy was being tracked by local health workers, the couple had left their village and moved to her parent’s house to avoid tracking and avoid taking medical care, said Dr Jayanthi, Deputy Director of Health, Dharmapuri.
