It was on August 17 that a massive protest was organised against the blasphemous remarks, by CPM leader and Kerala Assembly Speaker A N Shamseer, against Hindu Gods by the RSS and related organisations. While addressing a gathering of school students in a school in Ernakulam district, Shamseer said that Hindu faith propagates myths. While advocating for promoting scientific temper in the education sector over myths, he said that Lord Ganesh is a myth.

Addressing the Namajapayathra, Valsan Thillankerry, working president of RSS-inspired Hindu Aikyavedi, told that Hindus would not bow down and tolerate if Hindus faith is insulted. When mike is around, some people are keen to insult Hindu ethos. They use science, for this, as an excuse. Shamseer who insulted Hindu faith said ‘Holy Quran’ when he referred to his religious text.

He argued that his religious text stands for women’s rights. Now, CPM undergoes ‘greenisation’ (Islamisation). A Kozhikode-based ‘intellectual’ is behind this process. Swami Chidanandapuri, president of Kulathoor Adwaithashramam, inaugurated the rally. Thousands of devotees including Sanyasins, various Hindu community leaders, women and children participated.

Earlier in the day, Sanyasins and Hindu leaders met in Thiruvananthapuram to deliberate the action plan.

Despite protests from RSS, BJP, VHP, Kerala Kshetra Samrakshana Samiti, Hindu Aikya Vedi and all Hindu community organisations, and their demand for apologies from Shamseer, CPM and their leaders stated that the Speaker would not go back on his words. Party general secretary told the media that the state party unit would explain it.

Namajapayathra was a strong warning to Shamseer and the CPM-led Left Democratic Front regime. Since Sangh and inspired organisations have taken over the protest, the whole affair has reached a new dimension.

Now, BJP is all set to raise it as an issue in the election campaign for Puthuppalli by election caused by the death of Congress strongman and former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
