Imphal: Amidst the ongoing violence in Manipur, the 77th Independence Day was celebrated in different parts of the State as a testament to the indomitable spirit of its people, who, despite the challenges they face, came together to commemorate the nation’s freedom and express their unwavering commitment to a peaceful and prosperous future.

Joining the nationwide celebration of Independence Day 2023, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Manipur Pranta has also marked the day of national’s independence from colonial rule at the Model Relief Center opened at Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Skill Development Center (RBSDC), Haraorou in Imphal East district.

The programme was kicked off with the unfurling of the National flag by Imphal Zilla Sanghchalak, Dr Th Naranbabu Singh followed by the national anthem.

During the celebration, RSS Manipur Imphal Zilla honoured Kh. Indira Devi, wife of Veer Saheed Head Constable (CRPF), Kh. Upendra Singh who attained martyrdom on July 16, 2016 fighting against the Naxal during a Search and Destroy Operation in Chhakarbandha forest, Bihar.

The State-level celebration was held at 1st MR Parade Ground Imphal with Chief Minister, N Biren Singh, the Council of Ministers, the members of Manipur Legislative Assembly and high-level officials of various Government departments.

Chief Minister, N Biren while addressing the people of Manipur on the occasion appealed to end violence, restore peace in the State and live unitedly and peacefully together as before.

Independence Day was also celebrated at all the district headquarters of the State with various district-level Government officials.

Apart from the celebrations being held at various Government offices, the 77th Independence Day was also marked by various civil society organisations, local bodies and even people who are living in various relief camps in different parts of the State.
