In the history of Indian independence, many young heroes have also sacrificed their lives. Among those whose name is written in golden words is Khudiram Bose. During British rule, many British officers used to misbehave with Indians. One such Magistrate Kingsford was posted in Muzaffarpur in. He used to act brutally against the Indians and punish them severely for even small things. So the revolutionaries decided to teach him a lesson.

During a meeting of prominent revolutionaries in Kolkata, a plan was made to teach Kingsford a lesson. Khudiram Bose was also present in that meeting. Although he was very young, he came forward and asked the revolutionaries to let him execute the task. Along with him Prafulla Kumar Chaki was also given the responsibility of completing this task.

Once the plan was formulated, both the youths were given a bomb, three pistols and 40 cartridges. Both of them reached Muzaffarpur and camped in a Dharamshala. For a few days both of them studied the activities of Kingsford. This helped them to know his daily routine as to what time he came and what time he left the court. However, it was a challenging task to kill him since he had a huge security force with him.

Both the young men now focused on the rest of his routine. Kingsford used to go to the club every evening in a red buggy. The two brave revolutionaries decided to kill him during this time. On April 30, 1908, both of them hid themselves in the bushes near the club. After the celebrations at the club, people started returning. Suddenly a red buggy came out of the club. Khudiram and Prafulla’s eyes gleamed. They climbed on the wagon from behind and removed the curtain and planted the bomb. After this both absconded.

But unfortunately, Kingsford did not come to the club that day. Two English women were going back home in the same red carriage and unfortunately they were killed in the attack by the revolutionaries. The police laid a trap all around. The driver of the wagon informed the police about the two youths. Khudiram and Prafulla Chaki kept running all night. Both of them were extremely exhausted due to hunger and thirst. They wanted to reach Kolkata safely by any means.

Prafulla ran continuously for 24 hours to reach Samastipur and boarded the train to Kolkata. There was also a police officer in that compartment. Seeing Prafulla’s chaotic condition, he got suspicious. At Mokama police station he tried to arrest Prafulla; But before he could arrest him, Prafulla made the supreme sacrifice as he shot himself dead with a pistol.

Meanwhile, Khudiram got exhausted and in order to relax a little bit he sat down at a shop to eat something. It is there that people were discussing the two women being killed. Out of curiosity, Khudiram asked the people if Kingsford had survived? Hearing this, people got suspicious and caught him and handed him over to the police. Trial took place and the court awarded the death sentence to Khudiram Bose. On August 11, 1908, Khudiram had Gita in his hand when he was hanged to death. It is being said that he had a smile on his face when he was hanged. He was merely 18 years 8 months and 8 days old. The Pusa Road station where he was caught is now named after Khudiram.
