Kaimur police in a swift operation busted a mini gun factory and nabbed three men associated with the newly appointed zonal commander of the Naxal (Maoist) group from Bardiha village under Aghaura police station limits of the Kaimur district on Wednesday August 09.

As per the reports the district police raided Bardiha village and nabbed Vijay Shankar Singh, Ramsurat Singh and Ayodhya Singh all residents of Sakin Bardiha village under Aghaura police station limits of Kaimur. During the raid the police team also seized a rifle along with a country made pistol, material used in illegal gun making, pamphlets, receipt and objectionable posters from the house of one of the accused Vijay Shankar Tiwari.

Initial investigation revealed that Vijay Shankar and others accused involved in gun making were tasked by Rohit Rai, newly appointed zonal commander of one of the Naxal groups active in the region. It’s been reported that the accused were arrested on the inputs provided by Rohit Rai during the course of Interrogation following which a police team raided the house of Vijay Shankar.

Plot to revive Insurgency

Initial interrogation suggests that the zonal commander Rohit was involved in a plot to revive the insurgency in the region and was actively involved in fortifying the presence of his Naxal group on Kaimur Pahadi. It’s been also reported that Rohit was part of a group whose other members are yet to be arrested by the police.

It is pertinent to mention here that the bordering districts of the state were a hotbed of Maoist insurgency for decades where consistent efforts of the security forces in the recent few years have forced the Maoist to retreat to other places or surrender.

However the recent arrests made by the police reveals that a fresh attempt to revive the insurgency in the region was taking shape which has now been thwarted by the police.

Earlier the police have arrested a man identified as Mukesh Kumar Sahni during a vehicle check exercise in Bhagwanpur police station limits in May. The police team had also recovered arms, manpack along with cartridges from the possession of the accused, though one of the associates of Sahni identified as Rohit Rai successfully evaded arrest and was absconding since then.

Rohit Rai, a resident of Maniyari under Bhabua police station limits along with his associate Pramod Yadav a resident of Gaya was arrested by the Aurangabad police and STF in a joint operation from the outskirts of Pema village under Goh police station limits of Aurangabad on Monday August 07. The joint team also seized 2 country made pistols along with cartridges and extremist literature from the possession of the accused.

Sharing the details of the arrests made by the police, Superintendent of Police (SP), Kaimur, Lalit Sharma said that “Kaimur police has busted a mini gun factory in Aghaura pahad region, earlier a man was arrested by the police during a vehicle check exercise with manpack, arms and cartridges. Recovery of the manpack suggested that the accused could be related to the Naxals. During the arrest a person later identified as Rohit Rai had run away, he was recently arrested by the Aurangabad police and confessed his involvement with the Naxal group.”

“Following the intel shared by Rohit, the police team raided and busted a mini gun factory near Aghaura pahad, the recent development suggests that there is an attempt being made to revive the Maoist insurgency in the region, others associated with the Maoist group in the past are also being monitored, the remaining active members of the group will soon be arrested”, added SP Sharma.
