Imphal: Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey said on July 13 that external forces, including those from Myanmar, are behind spreading unrest in the State. The governor was visiting a relief camp in the Imphal East district. Talking to the inmates in the camp, Governor Uikey said that both communities want peace. I have spoken to both communities. Now our priority is to stop the firing incidents and the violence. People want to stay together and in peace like before.
“But I have learned that people from outside are coming and creating disturbances. Our security forces are approaching them for your security. Many such trouble mongers have been arrested by security forces and huge numbers of weapons and ammunition were also being seized by the forces. All these people are coming from outside of the State and creating trouble”, Governor Uikey said.
“Things will settle down in a few days. Search operations are going on in large scale by the forces and we need to send these trouble mongers out of Manipur. People from Myanmar are coming and creating violence in the State. So we need to stop them and send them back to their own country. Almost 60000 security forces are engaged in the State. I have ordered the Army, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Police and other forces to launch massive operations against these miscreants. The bunkers constructed by miscreants were also destroyed and I hope things will be on track in a few days,” Governor Uikey Said. “I have come here to share your sorrow and I assure you peace will return very soon. We are continuing our endeavours and you need not to worry. Peace will be restored soon”, She added.
It should be mentioned that Chief Minister N Biren Singh had previously hinted at a “foreign hand” behind the violence that has gripped the State since May 3, suggesting possible pre-planning and external involvement in the ethnic clashes.
Meanwhile, Search Operations in Manipur, during the last 24 hours, State Police and Central forces conducted search operations in the vulnerable and fringe areas of both valley and hill districts. A total of 6 bunkers were destroyed, one arm, 110 ammunition and 01 wireless set were recovered during the operations. A total of 123 Nakas/ Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police have detained 535 persons in connection with law violations in different districts of the State.
Movement of essential items is ensured along NH-37 and NH-2. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations, and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches to ensure the vehicles’ free and safe movement. Three hundred fifty loaded vehicles left Jiribam, and 148 loaded vehicles left Noney for Imphal along NH-37, whereas 21 vehicles reached Sekmai from Dimapur, and 34 vehicles left Sekmai for Dimapur along NH-2.
On The other hand, Chief Minister N Biren Singh convened a crucial meeting with Ministers and MLAs on July 14. The crucial meeting discussed key issues such as the reopening of educational institutions, the construction of temporary houses for displaced individuals, and the distribution of fertilisers across the State.
Chief Minister N Biren said, “Held a meeting with the Ministers and MLAs to deliberate the way forward to bring normalcy in the State. Also, discussed issues relating to opening of schools/colleges, construction of temporary houses for displaced people and distribution of fertiliser in the State.”
Clashes broke out in Manipur on May 3, 2023, during the solidarity march by the Tribal Students Union against the listing of the Meitei community in the ST list. Over 142 people have lost their lives in the ongoing violence, and more than 60000 people were displaced.
