Guwahati: 3 lakhs beneficiaries under Prime Minister Awas Yojana (Grameen) made ‘Griha Prabesh’ on July 13 in Assam. Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, on July 13, attended the “griha pravesh” ceremony organised by the Government of Assam’s Panchayat & Rural Development Department for as many as three lakh beneficiaries of the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (Grameen) held at the Srimanta Sankardev International Auditorium.
Addressing the event, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said the State Government has been taking all measures necessary to give shape to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ensuring housing for all by 2024. In this regard, the Government of Assam has been implementing the provisions of Prime Minister Awas Yojana (Grameen) in letter and spirit, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
With the aim of ensuring a pucca house equipped with all the basic amenities for all eligible beneficiaries in the rural areas, the Panchayat & Rural Development Department of Assam has been working relentlessly inefficient and time-bound implementation of Prime Minister Awas Yojana(Grameen) scheme, the Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma stated. He added that beneficiaries are being provided an amount of Rs 1.30 lakh each in three instalments through their bank accounts as per the provisions of the scheme.
Stating that a total of 19,10,823 houses have been approved under the scheme beneficiaries for which were selected on the basis of Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) and Awas+, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said a total of 12,43,584 houses have already been constructed. By February 2024, the construction of another 6 lakh houses would be completed.
With the aim of ensuring the landless population of the State are also able to enjoy the benefits of the scheme, the Government took measures such as allotment of land to the landless, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma further stated that in line with Prime Minister Awas Yojana, the State Government would implement a scheme named Chief Minister’s Awas Yojana, under which a total of 1 lakh houses would be constructed with entirely State Government funds.
Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass said that his department is leaving no stone unturned to achieve this feat. The entire department, under the leadership of the Chief Minister, is working toward the goal of making the Prime Minister’s dream of a house for everyone a reality in Assam.
Today’s event also witnessed the presence of Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Biswajit Daimary, Members of Parliament Queen Ojha, Chief Secretary Paban Kumar Borthakur and a host of other prominent dignitaries.
