A minor Hindu girl was abducted and raped by a Muslim boy in the Hailakandi district in southern Assam. Following the horrific incident, the villagers staged protests demanding immediate arrests and exemplary punishment of the culprits.

As per the reports, Zubair Ahmed and two of his friends Jabir Ahmed and Ansar Uddin Majumder abducted two minor Hindu girls on 5th July. The three accused persons took the girls to the Noonibali tea garden in the Cachar district in a car. But later the 13 years old school girl was found in serious condition by the locals. The local people told the Hailakandi police that the boy Zubair Ahmed abandoned her when her condition deteriorated and fled the spot. The locals brought the minor girl to her school and handed her over to her parents.

Later, the girl’s health condition deteriorated at her home and police were informed by her parents. She was rushed to Hailakandi civil hospital but the doctors in the hospital referred her to Silchar Medical College seeing her serious health condition. The main accused Zubair Ahmed is absconding since 5th July while his two companions

Jabir Ahmed and Ansar Uddin were arrested by Hailakandi police.

Hailakandi SP Leena Dole said that investigations are ongoing and police are collecting various pieces of evidence and talking with the locals of Noonibali tea garden where the girl was last found. Police are also conducting search operations to arrest the prime accused Zubair. The post-mortem report of the minor girl will reveal many important pieces of information, SP Dole added.

Locals close to the family of the victim girl revealed that the prime accused Zubair was known to her as Rahul. 28 years old Zubair works as a factory worker in Bangalore. He came to his native place recently.

On the 5th of July morning at around 9.30 am, when the victim was on her way to school, Zubair and his two friends in a car approached the victim girl for a drive. She also took her friend with her. All five went to Noonibali tea state in Cachar district. But spending some time in the garden, Zubair took the victim to a lonely place of the garden and raped her.

Tea workers came to know about the presence of a few boys and girls and gathered there. Seeing the workers coming, the other two boys and the victim’s friend escaped the spot on the vehicle. Zubair also abandoned the victim and fled the spot. Later she was handed over to her family by the garden workers.

Police issued a wanted notice in search of Zubair.

A case has been registered against the accused under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offense) Act. Hailakandi SP Leena Dole said that the railway police have been informed and kept on alert as the prime accused Zubair works in Bangalore and might try to flee by rail.

On the other hand airport authority and BSF were also informed and kept on alert. The mobile phones of the two arrested persons were being analysed by the cyber cell for more information and the vehicle was also seized by police. Hailakandi police are also circulating lookout notices on social media for the prime accused.

Family members of the victim girl accused the prime accused Zubair lured the 13 years old minor girl with a drive in his car. The minor victim couldn’t understand the trap of the 28-year-old culprit and fell prey to it. The victim’s family demanded the immediate arrest of the prime accused Zubair and exemplary punishment for him.

Meanwhile, local MLA Nizamuddin Chaudhury and SP Leena Dole visited the Noonibali tea garden where garden workers staged a protest against the killing. The police assured the agitating tea workers that all accused will be arrested soon.
