Guwahati: Assam Police, in a major haul of drugs, seized Heroin worth 18 crores of rupees from Guwahati and Hajo on June 25 night. Assam police STF (Special Task Force) seized a huge quantity of Heroin from the car, which was going from Guwahati towards Barpeta.

On the basis of secret information, the police started searching the car, seeing that the driver accelerated the speed of the car. STF team chased the vehicle bearing the registration number of Manipur.

Approaching Hajo town, 30 kilometres from Guwahati city, the driver took a sharp turn towards a hill. But the driver lost control of the car and fell down 100 feet on the side of the road. Police recovered 100 soap boxes laced with Heroin from a secret chamber of the crashed car.

Two drug smugglers from Manipur were arrested by the STF. The arrested persons were identified as Abdul Kalam alias Hasan and Mustakin Ali. STF DIG Parthasarathi Mahanta said that Abdul Kalam alias Hasan is a big catch for the Assam Police. He is a big handler of the drug rackets in the North East. Due to the ongoing violence, Hasan himself might have come to deliver the huge quantity of the drugs consignment. The drugs consignment was supposed to be delivered to a racket in Barpeta district. The STF team seized 1.9 kilograms of Heroin from the vehicle, DIG Mahanta said.

On the other hand, on the basis of the information received from the arrested smuggler, the police seized 65 soap boxes of drugs from an apartment in BG Colony in Guwahati. Hasan was camping in that apartment. DIG Mahanta said that STF seized a total of 2.2 kilograms of Heroin worth Rupees 18 crores.

On the other hand, Karimganj police conducted a successful operation against the drug racket and seized drugs worth Rupees 20 crores on June 25 night.

On the basis of secret information, Karimganj police conducted a raid on a vehicle in the Ramkrishna Nagar area. Police team seized 200 soap boxes of Heroin hidden in a secret chamber of the car. Three drug smugglers were arrested by the police. The arrested drug smugglers were identified as Ahad Uddin, Mokbul Hussain and Kajal Ali.

Karimganj SP Pratim Das said that they got the information at around 8 pm on June 25. Accordingly, a Naka checkpoint was set up in the Ramkrishna Nagar area, and the police team intercepted the vehicle.

The police team uncovered several secret chambers in the vehicle, including in the bonnet and boot box and seized 2.5 kilograms of Heroin worth Rupee 20 crores. SP Pratim Das also said that the drugs were brought from Mizoram by smugglers Ahad Uddin and Mokbul Hussain and were supposed to be delivered to Kajal Ali.

On June 23, the Karimganj Police in Assam seized narcotics worth Rs 25 crores and arrested five drug smugglers in connection with the bust. The arrested drug smugglers have been identified as Talab Hussain, Tahir Ahmed and Khalid Hussain, residents of Karimganj, Assam, and Nitai Sarkar and Nitu Sarkar, residents of Tripura.

SP Pratim Das said that police acted on specific information to carry out an operation at Nilkanthapur village under the Bazaricherra police station, during which the massive consignment of drugs was intercepted and seized.

The total quantity of Heroin was found to be 3.2 kilograms. The drugs were kept in as many as 250 soap boxes.

On June 24, Assam police arrested two drug smugglers from Nagaland and seized 1.132 kg of Heroin at Janakpukhuri of the State’s Karbi Anglong district. The police seized 87 soap cases containing 1.132 kg of Heroin worth Rupees 9 crores.
