Once again a minor was groomed and abducted by a much older man from Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district. The accused was not alone to rape the minor but was accompanied by two others, who did the same. The victim’s family registered a missing persons report on June 6. The police tracked the duo and arrested the perpetrators from Noida.

The accused men have been identified as 50-year-old Shah Alam, a resident of Pairora village with 30-year-old Irfan alias Babu, a native of Pairora village and 25-year-old Nadeem Qureshi, a resident of 44-Delhi Gate near Madina Mosque, Bulandshahar.

Ankita Patel (name changed, surname retained), a 17-year-old school-going girl knew Shah Alam, as the father-in-law of the sarpanch of the village. As Alam was known to her and he was constantly calling her, she entertained the calls.

In the last five months, Alam gained the trust of the minor and that is why when he called her, she went to meet him. On June 6, Alam called Ankita out, as soon as she sat into his car he intoxicated her and took her to an unknown place.

After hours when Ankita did not return home, the family started looking for her, having no clue they reached the police seeking help and soon a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Meerganj police station of the Bareilly district.

As per the FIR (Number—152/2023) the complainant, Deepak Patel, the victim’s brother told the police that, on 6 June around 10 am Ankita left home to bring the stitched blouse of her mother from the tailor’s house. When she did not return, they checked the tailor’s house, she was missing.

At home, Ankita’s mother found an unidentified phone with a sim card, when checked it had ten missed calls, the last dialed number showed it was of Alam’s. The family suspected Alam had abducted the minor and can do wrong with her.

Following this complaint the police registered the FIR under section 363 (abduction) of the IPC.

Following the abduction, the accused took the minor to Kashipur, Uttarakhand kept her in his captivity and raped her. After raping her multiple times, Alam called his friend, Irfan, he also raped her.

Later they took her to Noida where Nadeem Qureshi again raped her. Soon, they took the minor back to Kashipur, it was then the police tracked them through surveillance.

Bareilly police issued a press note on June 12, informing about the arrest of the accused. As per the press note, the police tracked the culprits and nabbed them. They all have been booked under IPC sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 (abduction), 376(2)(n) (repeated rape) and sections 5(l)/6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offense (POCSO) Act.
