A lot of complaints have recently surfaced about cow slaughter and the sale of beef in Gujarat. A case of beef-filled samosas being sold in Navsari’s Dabhel has come to the fore. The Gujarat Police has arrested one of the accused, Ahmad Mohammad while the other accused Chacha Ajim Bhai is absconding.

The police received a tip about the sale of beef-filled samosas at Dabhel village and went to investigate. The police went to the truck ‘A-ONE Chicken Biryani’ on the banks of the village lake and sampled the meat. The police found that the accused was selling beef in samosas, marketing it as chicken and mutton. It was reported that the accused were selling beef-filled samosa for about four years.

It was reported that when Ahmad Mohammad saw the police coming towards his lorry, he realised that his lorry was being raided and tried to throw the samosas into the lake. It was also reported that he had done this before, however, this time the police were alert and were able to arrest him before he could throw the beef-filled samosas into the lake.

The police have now registered the case against Ahmad Mohammad u/s 5, 6 and 8 of the Mumbai Animal Protection Act, 1954 and 6(a) and 6(b) of the Gujarat Animal Protection Amendment Act, 2017.

The accused Ahmad Mohammad was arrested once before; however, he was released without testing. However, this time the police seized a certain quantity of paste from the accused, which was revealed to be mixed with beef during testing.

A Twitter user Amitabh Chaudhary (@MithilaWaala) wrote, “#Gujarat Police arrested Ahmed Sujain for selling beef stuffed Samosa in Navsari… He used to sell it as chicken stuffed Samosa… Still a lot many Hindus will choose to ignore this #FoodJihad and will go to their shops to eat food which is spit and urinated into and cow meat.”

Ismail Yusuf’s Case

Notably, a case was registered against two persons for cow slaughter and sale of beef in Gujarat last month. Ismail Yusuf sold beef-filled samosas at his snack shop in Mangrol’s Kosadi village. The police acted on a tip about the sale of beef at the snack shop. The police stopped a suspicious auto-rickshaw to search. The police found about 2 kg of beef-filled samosas in the auto-rickshaw and arrested Ismail Yusuf.

It was reported that Ismail Yusuf told the police about his suppliers. He said that he used to purchase beef from Suleiman alias Sullu Salim Bheeku and Nageen Vasava alias Simon Vasava, to make beef-filled samosas. He also revealed to the police that Suleiman and Vasava slaughter cows near the Kosadi village river bank.

The seized samosas were sent to Regional Justice Assistant Science School in Surat for testing, after which the presence of beef has been confirmed in the samosas. The Gujarat Police has registered an FIR and is taking further action.

A Twitter user Mr Sinha (@MrSinha_) wrote, “Md Ismail Yusuf used to fill cow meat in Samosa & feed the customers, got arrested by Gujarat Police. And some people start playing victim when we talk about boycott!”
