In yet another incident of civilians being killed by the IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) planted by the left-wing extremists, a 14-year-old boy was killed in an IED blast in Maoist-affected West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on May 18 evening.

As per the reports, the deceased, who has been identified as Naara Koda (14), a resident of Banglasai tola of Rengrahatu, had gone to the nearby forest to pluck tendu patta leaves. He accidentally stepped over the IED planted by the Maoist and got killed.

Learning about the incidents, personnel from CRPF and district police immediately rushed to the spot and recovered the body, which was later sent out for a post-mortem in Chaibasa’s Sadar hospital.

Briefing about the incident, Sub Inspector Upendra Kumar said that the boy Naara Koda had gone to the Rolabrupi Jengagada forest area to collect tendu patta and Chiraunda when he accidentally stepped over an IED planted by the Maoist and died on the spot.

It’s been reported that the Maoist planted the IEDs to harm the search parties of security forces in the region. It is to be noted that civilians causality due to IEDs planted by the Maoists is almost a regular phenomenon in the region, as a number of villagers have already been killed in the IED explosions planted by the Ultras.

Earlier, in a similar incident in April, an elderly man identified as Jaina Koda, a resident of Regrahattu, was killed in a similar blast triggered by the Maoist in the Regarhattu region under Tonto police station limits. It was learnt that the blast occurred when Koda, along with his son, had gone to the nearby forest area to collect forest produce.

In another similar kind of incident, a 60-year-old woman was also got killed in an IED blast triggered by the Maoist in the forest of Jamargadha under Goilakora police station limits of West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand on April 28.

The incident occurred around 7 am when the deceased woman was collecting Tendu Patta leaves in the nearby forest when she accidentally stepped over a pressure IED planted by the Ultras and died on the spot. The deceased was later identified as Gangi Surin, a resident of Patahatu Toga village under Goilkora police station limits. It was then reported that the woman was accompanied by two other women who merely escaped the deadly explosion.

It should be noted that the security forces have launched a massive anti-naxal operation in the erstwhile Maoist-dominated Kolhan region of the district since January, though once considered to be a Maoist hotbed, the region is reported to be covered with the IEDs planted by the Maoist. It’s been reported that at least seven people, including civilians, have so far lost their lives, while a dozen have been injured in different incidents of IED explosions since the launch of the major counter-insurgency offensive in the region.

Let us tell u that pressure IEDs have frequently been used by the Maoist to harm the search operation party’s in the Maoist affected forests regions which on a number of times led to the death of security personnels as well as the locals visiting the forest to collect forest produce.
