Guwahati: The violence in Manipur is a planned attack by Kuki Chin migrated from Myanmar to the Indian State, claims World Meiti Council Assam chapter. Manipur Government’s action against drugs and poppy cultivation has not gone well with the migrant Kuki Chin. The latest violence in Manipur is a planned attack by the Kuki Chin militants against the Meiti community.
Addressing the media, Hari Singha, General Secretary, Assam, World Meiti Council, said, “The violence is not simply a clash between Meiti and tribal as reported by many media houses. The series of violence is an attack against Meiti by the Kuki Chin tribe.”
The association claimed that after the Government’s crackdown on illegal poppy cultivation in different parts of Manipur, many illegal Kuki Chin immigrants migrated from Myanmar who were doing illegal Poppy cultivation in Churachandpur and the adjoining districts were not happy with the anti-drug policy of the State Government. The Kuki militant got a chance in the solidarity march to attack the Meiti community.”
PH Phuritsambam Birmani, Advisor, Manipuri People Front, Assam, also asserted that thousands of Kuki people are inflators and have been creating problems or the other. The rapid increase of the Kuki Chin tribe population is also changing the demography of the State.
Phuritsambam Birmani also said that in recent years huge populations of Kuki Chin migrated from Myanmar have illegally encroached in the Reserve Forest of Manipur, and because of this, the number of Kuki Chin population has increased by around 30 per cent in recent years.
The All Assam Manipuri Students’ Union, Manipuri Peoples’ Front, Manipuri Basti Meirapabi Womens’ Association and the World Meiti Council, Assam unit have strongly condemned the violence. The association has also urged the State Government of Manipur and the Central Government to bring peace to the valley State along with the different communities of Manipur.
