On May 5, an explosion that occurred during a confrontation with terrorists in the Rajouri area of Jammu and Kashmir claimed the lives of five Army jawans. The officials said, “Three more soldiers who were injured earlier have unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. A total of five soldiers have lost their lives in the joint operation in Rajouri, J&K.”

Meanwhile, more teams from the area are directed to the site of the encounter. It further stated that the injured personnel had been evacuated to Command Hospital, Udhampur.

As per the officials, the operations are still ongoing. According to an official release, “Indian Army columns have been conducting relentless intelligence-based operations to flush out a group of terrorists involved in an ambush on an army truck in the Tota Gali area of Bhata Dhurian in the Jammu region.”

The official release states, “On specific information about the presence of terrorists in the Kandi Forest in the Rajouri Sector, a joint operation was launched on May 3, 2023. At about 7:30 am on May 5, 2023, a search team established contact with a group of terrorists well entrenched in a cave. The area is thickly vegetated with rocky and steep cliffs”.

According to the initial reports, a group of terrorists is trapped in the region, and there is a “likelihood of casualties in the terrorist group”.

A similar operation happened in Baramulla on May 4, where two terrorists were neutralised. The encounter broke out early in the day in Baramulla’s Wanigam Payeen Kreeri area. Again, incriminating items, weapons, and ammo, including an AK-47 rifle and a pistol, were found by the police. Kashmir Zone Police informed, “Two terrorists neutralised in Baramulla encounter. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one AK 47 rifle and one pistol recovered”.

Similarly, on May 3, in the Kupawara district, two terrorists were neutralised in an encounter by the security forces. Terrorists and security personnel engaged in combat during the morning hours in the Kupwara district close to the Pichnad Machil area, according to police officials.
