In an early morning operation, Assam police arrested three Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) terrorists from the Dhubri district. The arrested terrorists were identified as Md. Safiqul Islam, Md.Mojahidul Mandol and Md. Badshah Seikh. They are part of an Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) module active in the Dhubri district.

The ABT is linked to Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). On a specific intel, the Dhubri district police conducted a raid in the Bagulamari and Sastarmari areas of the district on April 24 early morning.

Police arrested ABT terrorists Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, Muhammad Mojahidul Mandol and Muhammad Badshah Seikh and seized several objectionable documents. The police seized one laptop and three mobile handsets, and several SIM cards. The arrested terrorists were produced in a local court, and they were sent to 7 days of police custody for further investigation. DGP G P Sings informed about the arrests and said, “All manifestations of ABT and AQIS are designated as Terrorist Organisations as per the First Schedule of UAPA 1967.”

As many as 53 alleged ‘jihadis’, including one from Bangladesh, have been arrested in Assam since March 2022. Another five terrorists from Bangladesh are on the run and recruiting Muslim youth in ABT by influencing them in various mosques and madrasas.

A total of 114 “jihadis” have been arrested from different parts of Assam in the last ten years, including 53 in 2021-22.

Out of the 114 “Jihadis”, 65 were members of the banned terror outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), and nine were from Hizbul Mujahideen (HM).

The list also includes 40 cadres of the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) who have been arrested since March 2022.
