Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai keeping his words said months ago that he would release the “DMK files – unaccounted property list of DMK leaders” on April 14 (on new Tamil Year Day) documents on “corruption” related to DMK leaders, he has released the same at a press meet.

On his Twitter account, the State BJP chief wrote, “DMK Files April 14, 2023 – 10:15 am.” He also stated that he would make public his Rafale Watch bill and the illegally amassed property list of DMK leaders. The first of the two-part “expose” series of the DMK government’s corruption list “DMK Files”, was launched in BJP’s State headquarters Kamalalayam in Chennai’s T Nagar. He said he would be open to questions from the press on April 20-21.

Before screening the video, Annamalai suggested purchasing his “Rafale” watch, the major issue that the DMK leaders used to pin the former top cop down. He said Cheralanathan Ramakrishnan, based in Coimbatore, owned the watch, and he brought it for Rs 3 lakhs on May 27, 2021. He displayed a paper, purportedly an invoice, as proof of his purchase.

Subsequently, the “DMK Files” video was released. The first part dealt with the “irregularities” and “inconsistencies” in the assets and properties of DMK leaders: Jagatratchagan- ₹50,219.37 crores, K N Nehru – Rs 2495.14 crores, EV Velu – Rs 5442., Kanimozhi – ₹830.33 crores, Kalanithi Maran – Rs 12,450 crores, TR Balu – Rs 10,841.1 crores, Kathir Anand – ₹579.58 crores, Kalanidhi Veerasamy – Rs 2923.29, crores, Ponmudi & Goutham Sigamani – ₹581.20 crores, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi – Rs 1023.22 crores, Udhayanidhi – Rs 2039 crores, Sabarisan – ₹902.46 crores. The video also contains details of the assets of the kin of these leaders.

The properties owned by Jagathrakshakan include JR Super Speciality Hospital (₹444.79 cr), Grand Accord Pvt ltd (Rs 4.06 cr), Accord Energy Corporation (Rs 343.02 cr), JAM Hotel and Resorts (Rs 66.81 cr), Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust (Rs 1239.80 cr) and others.

EV Velu, who declared his asset as 23 crores in his election affidavit in 2021, has more than Rs 5000 crores in assets. He owns Arunai Engineering College (Rs 1086.26 cr), Kamban Arts and Science College (Rs 141.86 cr), Arunai Medical College (Rs 4120.26 cr) and Jeeva Velu International School (Rs 94 cr).

Kanimozhi declared Rs 30 crores as her assets in the 2019 election affidavit, but her share in Kalaignar TV alone is worth more than ₹800 crores.

Kalanidhi Maran has assets worth Rs 12,450 crores in films, television, the IPL franchise, DTH services, etc.
Some of the assets owned by TR Balu, who declared his assets as Rs 20 crores in the election affidavit, are Kings India Power Corporation (Rs 50 cr), Safe Infratech (Rs 10 cr), Golden Vats (Rs 255 cr) and others.

Durai Murugan’s son and Lok Sabha member Kathir Anand – Kingston International Academy (Rs 117.27 cr), Kingston Engineering College (Rs 447.83 cr).

TN Minister Ponmudi – Ever Smile Enterprises Ltd (Rs 13 cr), Siga Properties Pvt Ltd (₹1 cr), PT Excel Pesticide Company (Rs 204.81 cr) and others.CM M K Staalin’s son Udhayanidhi – Red Giant (Rs 2010 cr)
MK Stalin’s son-in-law, Sabarisan – CFS ZIPP ITD (Rs 44.65 cr), Lantern Lodge (Rs 13.22 cr), SpaceTel UK (Rs 15.11 cr), St George Bank (Rs 37.6 cr).

MLA Kalanithi Veersamy, son of former minister Arcot Veerasamy – KUN Group (Rs 1562 cr), Vee Care Group (Rs 711.1 cr), Chennai Public School ( Rs 649.59 cr ) and others.

Following the screening, Annamalai raised four questions to DMK. He asked what the source of income for Red Giant movies to have made movies worth Rs 300 crores during the 2006-11 regime when many of the films were unsuccessful was. The BJP leader Annamalai questions the ties of Stalin’s son-in-law Sabareesan with one of St George’s Bank’s (which Annamalai claims to facilitate money laundering) director Srinivas Venkatesh in England.

He kept the third question to Stalin on signing a MoU with the Noble conglomerate where Annamalai claims ministers Udhayanidhi Stalin and Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi were one-time directors.

Annamalai made a corruption charge against CM Stalin, asking why custom duty was included as an addendum with the tender of Metro Phase 1 when Exim was clear that custom duty could not be levied on the tender process. He charged that the then DMK government favoured American company “Alstom” in return for a bribe for 2011 election campaigning. He said he would file a case as a complainant with the CBI regarding this.

Annamalai also displayed several properties in South Indian states owned by the DMK-linked G Square real estate company. In the details provided, Annamalai also accused the liquor minister Senthil Balaji of looting more than Rs 10,000 crores per year. Annamalai claimed that the total value of the assets of DMK ministers exceeds Rs 1.34 lakh crores. He said the list only includes properties registered directly in the names of DMK Ministers and their relatives, not benami properties. He also said some DMK leaders own assets in foreign countries, including a port.
He said, “The benami properties of certain newly joined DMK members total more than 20,000 crores, which will be covered in Part 2 of the “DMK files.”

Annamalai stated that G Square, which had a revenue of only Rs 52 crores in 2019, has grown mysteriously since the DMK came to power and is now worth over Rs 32,000 crores. He also questioned Udhayanithi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies’ growth and sought information about its investors. He also accused the son-in-law of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister of money laundering through shell companies and Annamalai said, “The exposing of corruption will not be limited to the DMK, but that he will expose the corruption of all parties in power in order to achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of building a corruption-free societ. I will upload my 212-page bank statement from the day he became an IPS officer and that he struggled for seven years to repay the loan he took to complete his MBA degree.”

In 2020, vlogger Maridhass came out with a video calling DMK patriarch and former CM M Karuanidhi as the “father of scientific corruption” with supportive evidences.

DMK organising secretary R S Bharathi, talking to media persons at party headquarters Anna Arivalayam, said that Annamalai has levelled frivolous charges against the DMK leaders to divert public attention from allegations of the BJP state president receiving Rs 84 crore in the Arudhra chit fund scam.

On Annamalai’s specific allegation that chief minister M K Stalin had received a kickback of Rs 200 crore in the CMRL phase I project, Bharathi said, “He has announced that he will file a complaint with the CBI. The allegation he levels dates back to 2010-11. What has the CBI been doing since 2014? The CBI is controlled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Income Tax department reports to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Is he implying that they are inefficient? Let him file a complaint. We have nothing to fear.”
