Two days before the Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the Maoist-hit Bastar of Chhattisgarh, security forces in a search operation arrested as many as five Maoists in Sukma of Chhattisgarh on March 23.

As per the reports, Sukma police had got some intel about the presence of armed cadres of the proscribed CPI-Maoists near the Kottalendra forest area under Errabore police station limits, it was reported to the police that the Maoists were planning to create some disturbance on NH-30 following which a joint team comprises of personnel from District Reserve Guard (DRG) and District force was dispatched to the location.

A heavy gunfight broke out between the forces and the Maoists around 11.30 am near Kottalendra village, following which as many as five active cadres of the Konta Area Committee of the outlawed CPI Maoist were held, confirmed SP Sukama, Sunil Sharma.

Sensing the heavy hand of the forces, the ultras withdrew and ran towards the forest; a few of them also sustained bullet injuries, and a search operation is being conducted in the area, added Sharma.

Maoist set ablaze JCB and a truck in Dantewada

Earlier in another incident, the members of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), an armed wing of the outlawed CPI Maoist, set ablaze a JCB along with a truck for doubling the railway track in Bacheli of Dantewada.

The incident occurred when a group of Maoists tried to set fire to a JCB machine and a truck on March 22 night. News agency ANI reported a gunfight between the police and the Maoist.

It is to be noted that the Union Home Minister is all set to visit the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) headquarters on its 84th raising day celebration in Jagdalpur of Bastar on March 25.

It should be noted that this is the first time the CRPF is holding its raising day celebration in the Maoist-affected State; it’s been learnt that around 5000 personnel from the state police and the CRPF have been deployed ahead of the Union Minister’s visit.
